Hurney 2.0 - The Best and The Worst moves

stbugs for gm.     one thing about gman i liked was how he wanted to build the lines.  he just sucked at it.  we need someone who is good at it.  that's not marty.  going into this season protecting cam should have been issue #1.   hurney got a boner and reached for little instead of doing what bugs suggested.   he can't be trusted on draft day.  he just can't.

The 2015 line was the best we've had in recent memory but nobody seems to recall them.

It wasn't, it was masked by max protection schemes, extra blockers on most snaps, and one of the most elusive running quarterbacks in NFL history.

Andrew Norwell and Mike Remmers have been disasters in Jacksonville and New York.  Michael Oher was always a jag not playing in a max protection scheme, and Trai Turner is showing how overrated he was.

Ryan Kalil was the lone bright spot, and drafted by Hurney in the late 2nd round.

Thanks for the objective analysis :)

Here's one of the other more damning things...

The combination of Marty Hurney and Ron Rivera still has yet to produce so much as a single winning season. This year is their fourth shot at it, and it's looking pretty strongly like it's gonna be a failure too.

Forget back to back winning seasons. With this duo in charge, we can't even manage one.

(and no, don't try the dumbsh-t move of crediting Marty with 2017 when he was hired after all the offseason work was done; something which I have little doubt was deliberate on Jerry Richardson's part)

This is just not a winning combination.

It's time to move on from both of them.

If Hurney doesn't get credit for 2017, then who gets credit for 2013?

I'm pretty sure we were 12-4 in 2013.

By your own metric you just laid out, 2017 should be credited to Gettleman, than 2013 should also be credited to Hurney.  You can't have it both ways.

It was the same situation inverted.

I wasn't aware that Hurney ran the entire draft and free agency period of 2013.

You naturally he must have some evidence to show that this happened, of course

Ah yes, because a rookie Star, and a raw Short (who started 0 games), had so much impact on our 12-4 record.  I must have forgotten that part.

One starting defensive tackle and another who's a rotational player have no impact on our season performance?

Uuuuhhh, yeah sure :eyeroll:

(and apparently those were the only two moves we made that offseason)

I'm going to guess you're just trying to be a contrarian here because the arguments are getting really dumb.

I still find it mind blowing that Richardson was shown the door and yet Kraft is still around.

If you remember the old days of football, it's mind blowing that Jerry Richardson was shown the door. And the mind that was most shocked by the outcome was probably his own.

I honestly think that when he proposed the whole "internal team investigation" thing (which I'm sure would have been completely objective :eyeroll:) Richardson genuinely believed the league would accept it. That they didn't is probably what produced a lot of the bitterness he was reported to be showing in the months that followed.

The NFL covered the ass of its higher-ups for decades. Heck, Richardson himself may have helped in some of those cover-ups. But then when it was his turn, the league said "uuuhh sorry, no".

And to be clear, they were right to do so.

I guess he's just unlucky that his issues came out in the #metoo era. Twenty years ago, he might have gotten away with it.

(even those meddling kids wouldn't have been able to touch him)
