Is Daley really our LT of the future? Our line is so bad, are we really sure that he is that good or just better by comparision? Kinda like how Moton looked good but it tuens out he is pretty blah. Seems more like a maybe with some projection of hope added in.

What about the contracts he adjusted? Those are looking like some expensive hurdles now.

My concern with Daley is that I think he's going to turn out to be our left tackle of just a few games right now, and he won't last beyond that.

His best move - firing Mike Shula and hiring Norv Turner to run the offense. Granted, the offense has hit some bumps along the road, it's miles ahead of where it was under Mike Shula.

His worst move - drafting Will Grier. In hindsight, it seemed like an ok pick at the time. But after going through the preseason, seeing that Grier is no upgrade over what we already had in Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke, it was just a wasted draft pick in my opinion. We could've had a number of safeties. And yes, I know we had just drafted Gaulden the year before, in the 3rd round, but who's to say if we had drafted another safety, he wouldn't have been better than Gaulden? I mean, Gaulden isn't even on the team now.

Coaching staff decisions are made by Rivera, not Hurney.

Fun fact, Dennis Daley is PFF's highest graded rookie tackle in the NFL.

Another fun fact.

Bene Benwikere had the highest PFF grade for all rookie DBs his first year.  And that was playing pretty much every game that season (Daley has only played meaningful snaps in 6 of 10 games this year)

Benewikere also was a 1st round pick in everyones do over after his rookie do o er mock drafts.

Now we saw how that turned out.   Lets give Daley more than 6 games or 1 season before crowning him

Yep, small sample size on a guy that needs to put in a whole season before claiming LT of the future. I also find it hard to tell who is playing well on the online because it all looks bad to me but honestly I'm not paying as much focus as i should at this point in the year.

Not entirely true, but yes, the final decision was Ron Rivera's. But Hurney pulled the plug. Rivera said yes, let's fire him, Hurney said ok, let's do that. It was a collective decision, as any coaching change should be. Even if Rivera gets fired, it'll be a collective decision between Tepper and Hurney, unless Hurney goes with him. Then it's Tepper and probably the President of the team.

You are probably right and honestly, as much as people hate Gettleman, that’s where we missed him. He wouldn’t be a push over like Hurney. Gettleman was big on cap savings so he’d likely have fought for Butker and we’d have an extra $12M in cap right now and not be searching for another K.

Yeah, given that Gettleman drafted Butker for the purpose of competing with Gano, I think it's fairly safe to say he and Rivera were headed for a showdown on that front.

All NFL teams give final say on coaching staff decisions to their head coach. A coach who was told he didn't have that likely wouldn't want to work for the team in question.

Gettleman confirmed this when he was asked about Richard Rodgers (Rivera's old college buddy who inexplicably still has a place on our staff).

Gettleman cultists used to argue that a general manager's performance could only be evaluated by the team's win loss record, and that Gettleman should ultimately get the credit for Cam Newton having an MVP season, ostensibly because he happened to be in the right place at the right time.  Gettleman critics would ask what the team's record would be without Cam and Luke.

Well it's a few years later, and we have an answer to that question.

The Giants are 2-10, and have the worst record over the past few years of any team in the NFL.  He spent the #2 overall pick in the draft on a running back who is 24th in the NFL in rushing yards.  The arguments revolving Gettleman these days involve whether he's the worst general manager in the entire NFL, and he has become a national joke.  On the Giants forum, 89% of Giants fan wanted him fired in a recent poll.

It just goes to show that the people who said Gettleman stumbled his way into a team with hall of fame talent Hurney drafted were correct.  He's been a catastrophic failure in New York.

When Hurney was named "interim GM" and placed in charge of "finding a new GM" we all knew it was a ruse. No legitimate search ever happened. Jerry Richardson's long time friend was back in the saddle.

Fast forward two and a half years, what has been HurnDogs' best and worst moves as GM?

My opinion:

The Best

Drafting DJ Moore. Moore has grown leaps and bounds this season and is now among the top tier receivers in the league. Hurney could always be relied on to select a solid first round pick.

Drafting Dennis Daley, a sixth round pick that will likely end up being the franchise left tackle for years to come. That right there is NFL gold.

Signed Julius Peppers to 1 year contract. Seeing Julius back home for a season was a thing of beauty.

The Worst

Chose Gano over Butker. So many of us saw this as a huge mistake and called him out on it immediately. It made no sense at the time, and it still doesn't. To make matters worse he kept two kickers on the roster for a long while and got nothing out of it.

Drafted Rashaan Gaulden in round three. Classic Hurney here. Ignore the scouts and go with your gut. Gaulden never had a chance of making any impact on the team and wasn't cut his rookie year only because he was a mistake of a third round draft pick.

Failed to address backup QB adequately. When Cam's shoulder gave out in 2018 it was clear to anyone paying attention that his 2019 season would be in doubt. A serious backup plan was needed, but never made. Kyle Allen and Will Grier aren't QBs of a team that you expect to win this season. Fail. Fail. Fail.

I know I am probably missing some. What are some more best and worsts?

Win-Loss record is the best way to measure a GM, and Gettleman's record in New York is a poor one, though it was still infinitely better than Marty's here. Rumor has It that Shurmur could be let go and Gettleman / Rivera might be given another shot.

Either way, I'm not sure how you thought acknowledging win/loss as a valid measurement was going to help make Marty look better when his record with two different coaches is abysmal
