Rivera: “The guys are trying”

A great quote from the Charlotte Observer

There was a lot of talk by Rivera and the Panthers after the game about “trying hard” and “having chances.” But when a team comes into the game having almost no success running the ball all season and then puts up historic numbers on a defense, there are bigger issues. It’s one thing to give up this much on the ground in a ugly loss on the road. It’s another to surrender this way at home to a two-win team that features one of the league’s worst offenses.

Would be a beautiful thing if TinkerBell Teppler could tempt Tomlin to choose a new beginning in Charlotte.

Had you fixed the football side of the equation, I bet the business side would catch right up.

Nah, let's buy a golf course, and keep the dynamic duo instead.  If if anyone has a moment to spare, I would like to talk about a new stadium and some soccer team.

This is one of the more confusing things about that game yesterday.

How on Earth do you not sell out to stop the run, and force a bad rookie QB to beat you with his arm?

What do you expect Ron to say?

He has 4 games left and he's trying to take the high road.

He knows he's done. Nothing is going to be gained by throwing guys under the bus at this point.

Rivera is going to protect his guys by saying they are trying bc he's already thinking about who he can recruit to his next team with all the free agents we are going to have.

Seriously, what in the world else do you expect him to say in his situation?

Regardless of what any blowhard on this board thinks, Rivera is not dumb.

And while Rivera used his get-out-of-jail-free card last year with injuries, none of the other 31 teams are going to view this season as the abject failure this fanbase does. Any objective observer would have given up on this team the minute Cam went down.

It doesn't mean as fans we should be satisfied with another wasted season- quite the contrary. But Rivera is not going to have the hard time explaining how this season went sideways to his next employer the way you might wish he did.

His time here is up. He did some good things here. He took over a 2 win team and got us back in SB contention.

There is absolutely no guarantee the next coach we have will come even close to doing that.

It doesn't mean Tepper should keep Rivera- in fact, the last few games are proof otherwise.

But some of this board is so over the top it's embarrassing.

Calm down and enjoy the last 4 games. Or not, it's your prerogative... but nothing is going to change until December 30th.
