1. He would be telling coaching candidates that he doesn’t settle for mediocrity. 

2. There are only 32 head coaching jobs in this league. Head coach candidates are eager to move up to those positions. They don’t care about the optics of how the team owner fired the last guy, especially if it was for valid performance reasons.  What those candidates DO care about is: team facilities, talent on the roster, the ability to run their team as they see fit, and (most of all) $$$.

3. Pretty much by definition, “reliable and stable” franchises aren’t in the market for head coaches. When’s the last time you’ve seen an NFL head coach retire? Bill Cowher maybe?
