“Ron Rivera is such a nice guy”

Is it really so bad to let the guy finish the season? Why would a good coach want to come to carolina if he thinks tepper will fire him as soon as the fan base has a fit. The new coach needs assurances that he will have at least 2 to 3 years to build his vision on the field. Hiring a coach is a long term i vestme t... unless you want to be oakland or the browns and only hire turds because winners know their franchises dont have any patience.

Letting a coach go twelve games into his ninth year, when the season is lost (hardly midseason), and it is quite apparent the players are not responding performance-wise, is a lot different than firing a coach eight games into his second season.  Had Tepper pulled the trigger as soon as he got the keys to the place, maybe that creates a stir (think Jerry Jones).

But how is cutting a guy loose when the competitive part of the season has ended, after nine years, and extended losing streaks in the last two showing impatience?

The NFL, like any professional sport, is a results-oriented business.  He isn't getting results, and right now, the season is lost, and it looks very much like he has gone beyond his shelf life in Charlotte.

The balance sheet of whether to let him go tomorrow or four weeks from tomorrow is about even.

None of that has anything to do with how long Tepper would give a new staff to turn things around.

You people are out for blood. You want instant gratification at the detriment to the franchise. Carolina is a team modeled like pittsburg that hires a coach for long term and gives them a chance to build their roster. Who wants to coach for a team like oakland or the browns that will fire their coach without giving him a chance to succeed? Fire rivera halfway through the season and that is the exact impression you are giving. We are alreadt a small market team. We cant afford to make our team even less attractive to good prospects.

My last post on this subject. You cant reason with anyone here after a loss.

I haven't wanted him gone because of losses this season.

I've wanted him gone since it became quite apparent he and his mentality were figured out after SB 50 and our core roster slowly withered and rotted after that.

Like it or not, the bloom is off the rose and if for whatever reason we keep Rivera, next year is 2010 revisited.

Do you really want to relive that?

No. I want to fire the entire coaching staff. I just want to fire them after the season instead of some kneejerk reaction mid season. Ron is as good as gone. Count on it. The difference is that we should do it in a professional and respectful manner and show future prospects that we are a serious franchise that will give them time to build their team and not fire them after a year or 18 months.

The thing is, this isn't mid-season.

He was laughing a few times on camera today. I usually don’t get mad about that crap. But, yes, I will admit. It rubbed me a little wrong today.

Ya know that guy in the horror movie who knows he's doomed but just snaps and starts laughing?

This franchise doesn't need help from fans for that. It has proven to be its own worst enemy.

His obvious lack of coaching ability aside, which would be plenty reason to fire him, how exactly is he a nice guy? A guy who blames his players all the time in the media (Hey, look at the guys we have to work with!) uses bad excuses for his poor work, sacrifices his guys to cover and save his own butt (lol Washington last year) ridiculous punishments (The tie incident) for certain players and provides zero backup like when Cam was being outright targeted (Id have taken a shot too) doesnt really scream jeez what a wonderfully nice man.

Maybe hes a good family man or something. Not sure how many people here would really know that but I dont get all that nice guy stuff really.

I’ve literally never heard a Rivera supporter use the defense of “We should keep him because he’s such a nice guy”. Why is this such a popular straw-man on these boards?

You're not looking hard enough. Most people on this board are past Rivera, but you're blind if you don't see this excuse on Facebook and Twitter.
