What advantages are there to firing RR quickly?

I was...you know what?  Never mind buddy.  Have a great evening.

Ahhhhhh, I gotcha - just playing along. The other dude was serious though with that Rivera’s a future HOFer

Short term benefits.

1. Will send the message this isnt acceptable and might light a fire under some people and give the team life. Downside, we may lose draft position if they get their act together.

2. Get to take a look at some guys who havent been able to see the field. Need to look at Grier since we know what Allen is.

3. This fanbase needs some hope. I know several PSL holders ready to walk away because the Panthers aren't putting a good product on the field.

4. An interim coach might be able to instill some offensive playcalling that makes some sense.

5. No more "missed opportunities."

There isn't much benefit to firing him other than some short-term feel-goods by making a statement to the fans. Fans will lurch about from one position to another, so I hope that isn't much of a consideration. There is nobody to interview right now, the coordinators are probably not long-term options, and treating an above-average coach badly would not be a stellar recruiting move once actual talent becomes available. Probably need to just let it ride.

Agreed 100%. Firing Ron now makes the franchise look unstable and not like a good place for an up and coming talent to want to coach. They would feel like they would have more job security with another team.

I want us to be able to land a new coach that feels confident that the Carolina Panthers will give him enough time to build his team and not fire him because of reactionary fan demands. Given that tepper has already said no decision will be made until after the season shows that he is a reasonable owner and that Carolina will give him a chance to succeed.

Personally, not having to spend the next four weeks worrying whether or not it's going to happen.

I'm not worrying, its gonna happen. I called it before the season ended that if we missed the playoffs he was gone. nothing has changed, and our realistic playoff hopes ended when we lost to the Falcons. that's why I said he was done during the game when it was clear the game was over.

Depends if you want to interview any candidates who are currently available. Mike McCarthy, Urban Meyer. Don't think there is anything stopping him from interviewing any college coach if any are potential candidates.

Of course if you want to hire a new GM and let that person evaluate Ron, you have to wait but move now on Hurney.

Who would be the interim coach? Turner?

What if he goes on a winning streak and the players start to campaign to keep him?

Yeah. I thought of this too.

That being said.. I dont think Turner is a bad coach, he seems to be highly respected. Its really too bad he didnt get a full season with Newton. I think he could have done something special.

The whole “send a message” idea I think is overstated.

I would be shocked if any fan quit following the team because we didn’t fire Ron now as opposed to 2 months from now.

Also I can’t really see any player playing harder next year for a different coach based on when Ron is fires this year.
