What advantages are there to firing RR quickly?

My biggest fear is Ron somehow rallies off four straight wins and we go 9-7 and get draft pick like 19 and somehow Ron survives the firing because of same pointless late surge.

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to say it.

What if this mofo beats Seattle, Indy and New Orleans. You would at least have to think about keeping him around. Damn!!!!

None. Beleive it or not, Rivera is highly respected in this league and will one day be a hall of famer. Firing him now would show disrespect and has zero benefit anyway because all of the good prospects will be with their current teams through the playoffs anyway. Why would a respected prospect want to coach for us if we fired a respected man 5 games early for no reason. Of course i dont expect logic from the huddle though, especially after a loss. Lol

Are you implying he will make the Hall as a coach? No way his playing career would get him in.

I see you answered others indicating your belief he would make it as a player. I stand by my initial disagreement. He was a backup on that '85 Bears defense. He had pretty underwhelming stats over his career to make a case the getting into the Hall.

I refuse to let this be spoken into existence.  It WILL NOT happen.  This team has quit.  They do not believe in the coaching.  They do not believe in each other.  And they do not believe in themselves.  So pack it in.  Run Run Run punt.  Lets get to the clubhouse.

The only advantage would be if you want to see how the team reponds, or if there is consideration about making one of the assistants a head coach, and you want to give him a trial run.  The only disadvantage would be sending the wrong message to a new potential hire.

In truth, it probably doesn't make much of a difference one way or the other.

I've had this thought but Seattle looks like they're on a mission and Russell Wilson is a legitimate MVP candidate.  Plus with the exception of 2015 they've pretty reliably beaten up on us regardless of venue.

There isn't much benefit to firing him other than some short-term feel-goods by making a statement to the fans. Fans will lurch about from one position to another, so I hope that isn't much of a consideration. There is nobody to interview right now, the coordinators are probably not long-term options, and treating an above-average coach badly would not be a stellar recruiting move once actual talent becomes available. Probably need to just let it ride.
