Will Tepper let his brass balls swing tomorrow?

I don’t think that’ll happen until the end of the season.

But if they’re seriously considering Scott Turner for some sort of capacity down the road, now would be the right time to evaluate him in the interim role. I have no reason to believe they are considering that, but I’m just speculating like everybody else.

I think if you’re going to make a change, you need to blow the whole goddamn thing up and go ahead and start over. That means the coach and GM. And the entire staff. Now, I keep hearing Tepper really loves Marty, but who knows.

Seriously, nobody knows.

Firing Ron and Marty would be bad optics to our future gm and hc. There isn’t much benefit to firing them now. I’d let them go down with the ship and fire them both on black Monday.

I'd argue keeping a GM that hasn't produced a single winning season this decade is worse optics.

no benefit to axing ron, and for all his mediocrity there's no reason to disgrace him. the season is already lost.

hurney on the other hand should be dragged into mint street in his underwear

The people so confident about Ron be upstanding and a good coach should understand firing him now gives him a chance to land one of the other vacancies that pop up.  I think it's entirely respectful to not prolong the change that will no doubt be made and give him adequate time to figure out his own professional future beyond the Panthers.

If Ron wants a job next season on another team's coaching staff he will have one regardless of when he is fired.

I'm not sure how it looks bad to fire an underperforming coach and GM.

That happens every year, several times a year.

Not only that, but for a new guy to have a shot at the job, the old guys kind of have to go.

Whenever my mom was trying to get me to eat something I didn't like, she always used to say that other kids were starving. I responded "send them this".

(yes, I got my ass beat)

It's kind of the same now. People say "other teams would love to have Ron Rivera", and I respond "let them".

I prefer the new GM to have ample time to get established and vet potential candidates for HC.

I can't think of any meaningful rational for continuing to employ Marty Hurney at this late date.

Bottom line, if Ron isn't going to test out the young talent for the future, get rid of him.  Most mid season coaching firings are a final nail in the coffin for their careers or cause a big hit on their reputations (Del Rio, Reeves, etc.) but others recover like McDaniels and Philips and excel again as coordinators.  I'd love to see Ron excel as DC for some AFC squad.

I have no animosity for Ron and hope he does well in his future endeavors.

If he goes tomorrow or after a few more games, it likely won't make a huge difference for him or the team.

I'd put it stronger than that. I actually think he's a great guy.

He's just not a good enough head coach.

I wrote a thread about it a while back with the fancy title of "relative intelligence'. Truth is, what I was really saying breaks down to saying that Ron just isn't smart enough.

Is he smart? Sure he is. So is your high school science teacher, but put him next to a Nobel prize-winning physicist and he looks like a dunce.

So basically, as long as Ron is competing with other high school teachers, we can do okay. Put him up against a professional scientist though? He doesn't have a shot.

Make of it what you will, but word is that reporters were asking Rivera questions about his job security in his postgame presser.

Granted that those are kind of futile (what would you expect him to say?) but when reporters have no fear of asking you those kinds of questions, it's not a good sign.
