realistically speaking, no he is not

He’s a second year UDFA. There’s no need to baby him any more than just stating the simple fact.

I don't see a guy who's been on a team as little as he has as any different than a rookie.

I see a guy who’s had two offseason to learn an offense opposed to one. He’s not a rookie. But that’s not a knock on him either.

Not really two full offseasons. Last year he was the 4th string quarterback so he hardly got any reps at all.

Mind you, that just reminds me that our staff evaluated Taylor Heinicke as being ahead of him.

Had the play calling been better on down 1, 2, or 3, we would not even be talking about this

THIS^^^^ Given that we've seen this scenario before, why are we leaving the game up to a 23 year old (rookie basically) on one play? Panthers went up 14-0... Where did that momentum go? And why has Norv Turner, who is supposed to be a coaching guru, not figured out how to call plays at the 1 yard line? ONE FREAKING YARD!

What's weird there is that at least for the first couple of series, it looked like Washington wasn't going to handle him very well.

Whatever they adjusted, they got it right.

This is what I do not understand... Went up 14-0, It's pretty rare when the Panthers come out on fire like this. The Redskins had an Interim head coach today and you mean to tell me that he was able to adjust, but our "veteran" head coach couldn't counter? It just seems like the Panthers have zero identity as a team and are not playing with any kind of pride. Playing a 2-9 Redskins team AT HOME, knowing that they have been harshly criticized for losing home games recently, I just don't get it. It just HAS to be that the players are not responding to coaching anymore... After pushing the Saints to the limit last week in NO, how is it that the Panthers cannot find it within themselves to beat a Redskins team that is in disarray? This is a pretty bad loss today for this organization... Very telling, and Tepper has to see this. It really sucks for us fans, they just folded today.

I think the players do respond to Rivera. The problem I see is he's just not as smart as a lot of the coaches he's facing.

I do not see a team that is responding this year... Scheme is one thing, fire and determination is a big percentage too, and I just don't see that with this team on a consistent basis. Everyone talks about the talent on this team, if that's so, then its just proof that guys aren't playing FOR anything. Good coaching or bad coaching, it doesn't matter if your locker room doesn't have a passion to win at all cost. They gave up 29 unanswered points today after coming out swinging... Something is drastically wrong in that locker room, you don't lose at home in front of your fans to one of the worst teams in the league unless there are just all kinds of issues going on. Tepper needs to figure out what that is and fix it immediately before this team becomes the laughing stock of the league. Based on today's performance, we're not far from it.

Well, there's responding and there's responding.

Do they respond to him in the sense that they support him and want to play for him? Yes.

Is the resulting product good enough on the field though? No, for a lot of reasons.

I believe the ultimate verdict on Ron Rivera's time as Panthers head coach will be "good, but not good enough".

It's a shame. He really is the kind of guy you want to cheer for. But as a head coach, he's just in over his head.

Evidently he's in over his head as a DC these days too. Ron's stock took a thrashing this season IMO. When you're a defensive specialist and your D is terrible... well, yikes

Goes back to what I was saying about him just not being smart enough.

In that same vein, I don't believe the whole scheme switch thing was a well thought out decision. To me, it was just a Hail Mary from a desperate coach who was thinking "Well, we've gotta try something. Maybe this'll work."
