It still blows my mind that a group of professional football people sat down this offseason and said to themselves "Well clearly our best option at left tackle is Darryl Williams".

How? Just...how?

AND having reconstructive knee surgery to boot!

Hurney to Tepper:  "Since I ditched Matt Kalil, the fans love me and I have a fool-proof plan to replace him.  First, our RT Daryl Williams, you know the one with a blown-out knee...we move him to his unnatural side, that's also our QBs blindside and that should work perfectly.  And,  just in an infinite realm of impossibilities that backfires, we will grab a second round tackle since I've let the whole world know we are taking a edge rusher in the first round.  By the way, somehow I was able to sign Williams to a very economical one-year deal.  Pure luck that other teams weren't throwing  huge multi-year deals his way."

If we didn't re-sign Williams or draft two LT's posters like you would say we neglected the tackle position in the offseason.

I see your logic, I didn't want to address LT since I didn't like Hurney's moves.  I've already stated I wanted a LT in round one.  I also wanted us to go get someone  ELSE in free agency other than Williams, because I totally saw this blowing up in our face.  I have also said I have no problem with Daley as a backup.

Hurney had a decent plan, sign a veteran LT and draft one too, but his choice of players is where that plan fell completely apart.

Having a plan is one thing. The execution of that plan being done poorly is another.

Sign a veteran LT: Good idea

That veteran LT being Darryl Williams: Uuuuhhh...

There wasn't a good vet LT available for cheap. If we didn't draft Burns, Huddlers would get on the team for not addressing the pass rush while Burns is tearing it up on another team.

I mean...you and everyone else were pounding the table for Moton at LT and he looked arguably worse than Daryl Williams when he played there against GB late in the game. Sometimes “common sense” obvious things to fans are not really borne out in reality.

We've seen very little of Moton at LT, ridiculously one series a few games back where he got pulled after Williams failed at the right.

On the flipside, Little was left in a game where he gave up 2 sacks and a mind boggling 14 pressures.

Ultimate reality is that whatever Rivera tends to decide regarding the OL lineup, it's pretty frequently wrong.

For one, we weren't that cash strapped and will have plenty more this off season.  Signing a back-loaded deal would have not been an issue.  Secondly, nobody was asking Hurney to go out and give Matt Kalil-type money to a FA.  Thirdly, just about anybody would have been better that Williams.  Really, I can't be the only one that saw this impending implosion occurring?

Okay Burns IS on this team and granted while playing hurt really has not/couldn't have make this defense any better.  Sure our sacks are up and so are points allowed, rush yards allowed, pass yards allowed etc...  For all of Gettleaman's faults, he understood the game is won and lost in the trenches.

    • If my reply comes off argumentative, that is not my intention so please don’t take it as such.  You said one word, probably subconsciously, in your post that immediately disqualifies him from being a QB in the NFL. You actually said it twice. Kid. It’s exactly how you see him, and exactly how the rest of the entire NFL sees him as well.  Yes, he is a kid, he looks and acts like a kid and that exactly IS the problem. The NFL is for grown ass men. Period. Hell, our kicker looks like he collects ‘taxes’ as a side hustle. These are straight dudes. Men.  Nothing in his persona changed from last year to this.  Nothing in his physical stature. Nothing. He has shown 0 development. 0. And he disrespects the entire organization, talking video games and Netflix in the offseason. Bro. Really. My man Chuba is busting his ass to look good for his second contract. Set himself up for life. How many RBs make it to even sign contract #3? First 2 games he has to run in to a brick wall continuously because Netflix can’t even get it over the LOS.  He’s a kid who pulled off the biggest heist in world history. He looks happier on the sideline goofing around than he ever has looked on the field. It’s time to cut bait.
    • I hear you and I can imagine it's frustrating as a fan, but UNC-CH leaving the ACC would be throwing away over a century of history. It would really suck if y'all, or Clemson, or any of the other remaining charter members leave. I still think it sucks that Maryland left as well. Feels so wrong not having that rivalry anymore. Maryland fuging hated us and I loved it. Who's Maryland's rival now in the big 10? Rutgers? lol. Also, I think that the Heels are more likely to be Kentucky 2.0 than you are to get serious about football upon joining the SEC. Both UNC (and also Duke's) administrations seem very stuck in their ways with sticking to their ways and remaining basketball powerhouses. I do wish we could see NC teams actually competing in my favorite sport sometimes but alas. I personally value keeping our history intact over trying to become top flight CFB programs because nowadays it's just a pay to win sport anyways. Even if UNC-CH got serious I doubt they could compete with that Texas oil money, or that Oregon nike money, or that USC rich kid money. That's all top level college football really is anymore. You're either an established blue blood or you're willing to waste tons of money that could be spent on education rather than football.
    • Maybe a move to the SEC forces UNC to be more serious about football?   I mean we should be making noise in the weak ACC and we can't even do that. How is Duke better than UNC in football right now? It's honestly sad and pathetic.   It doesn't matter if we get another great QB as you said a QB doesn't mean you have a great roster. A QB can only do so much. We lack elite guys in the trenches. That's how you build a program. It starts up front.
