I still have my pitchfork on hand..

you have to remember that the main injury, Cam Newton's, can't really be used as a scapegoat because it was essentially Ron and Hurney's fault for not building a decent o-line in their decade on this team.

Ron beat Cam with a baseball bat, he can't then say "look Cam got beat with a baseball bat, you can't fire me!"

honestly i want Chud back. i know we had trouble in the red zone but we still do so wtf. we had a spectacular offense then besides that.

Chud actually had a offensive line too. I would say offensive talent has dropped every year Rivera has been here. Cam's MVP year the talent wasn't better, just Cam Newton.

But even though I absolutely want Ron gone. In the first half of the season he did admirable with all the injuries surrounding the team. Gonna give him credit there.

Honestly this has been his scapegoat for several seasons now. When's the last time this team has gone through a full season without a significant injury that hinders the team?

Be that as it may, should Ron get the benefit of the doubt again this year? Due to the huge amount of injuries to key positions on the team?

Cam, Short, GVR, Turner (first part of the season), little, Irvin, Poe, etc.

It's almost like fate is dealing him a bad hand just to get him out of here..

A positive out of this is that there have been players that have stepped up. Unfortunately I believe the injuries have taken their toll on this team.

I think you have to look at what the guy has done with what he has been given. There's good coaching, but where Ron excels is in getting the most out of the guys on his roster. This team is 5-6 right now, but if you had been shown the starting line up for this week's game back at the end of training camp, you'd put us in the class of the Bengals at 0-11.

This team has lost the games it should have, won (all but one) of the games it was supposed to, and took a couple that we probably shouldn't have. And in two of three losses since Cam went, we were competitive with the best teams in the league right down to the wire. As someone pointed out, three yards of difference spread out between three games and we'd be 8-3 (TB to start, GB and NO). In each  of those cases, a stronger, better O-line would have made up those yards.

Our defense has been bad this year, but it has been a transitional year on top of the injuries. The move to 3-4 base from 4-3 isn't an overnight one. It's not just about training up the players, but in getting the right personnel. Hurney snagged us some excellent edge rushers, both vets and rookies, and even the DBs are looking better than before. Shaq and Luke are adjusting and changing as needed. What we couldn't find however was a real dedicated NT. And it shows.

I think he deserves another season and I think it would be unwise to let him go on to another team and win there while we were left with: a QB controversy, a slew of injuries (particularly to the lines), and a rebuild of the entire defense in progress. In short, he would go and get to work something new out there, while we would have to rebuild amongst what was already a remodeling project.

Has Norv really been that much better?

Yes, he has.  Much better.

Look at the first 8 games (before "the hit"), and project it.  Sans injury, Cam would have been:

354 of 526 (67%) for 3786 yards.  30 TD / 8 INT.  QBR 102.  146 rushes for 684 yards and 8 TD's.

For reference, here is Cam's 2015:

296 of 495 (60%) for 3837 yards.  35 TD / 10 INT.  QBR 99.4.  132 rushes for 636 yards and 10 TD's.

So yea, Cam was on pace to have a season equivalent to his MVP season last year before injury.  And that was his first year in Norv's system.  He was still learning.  A healthy Cam in his second year in that offense . . . we were in for a show.

While I don't disagree, I also don't completely agree.  We say this has been a transitional season, but watching our games, we really don't play much 3-4.  We say we are transitioning, and we have players to do that, but how many times have you actually seen a 3-4 look?  Not many.  Not many at all.  Most times, you simply see four guys with their hand in the dirt.

Since Sean McDermott left, our defense has consistently been going backwards.  Ron hasn't turned that around, and as a defensive minded HC, you can't have that trend.  The "why" of it doesn't matter.  The bottom line is that our offense is the number 12 scoring offense.  If you have a top 10 defense and the number 12 scoring offense, you should be better than 5-6.  You may not be a clear SB favorite, but you should be a STRONG playoff contender.

Unfortunately, our defense isn't currently and hasn't been holding up it's end of the bargain for years, despite having the GOAT sitting in the middle of it.

Rivera has been the best just like my 20's were probably my best years.

Sure, I did a lot of good things then. But I made some really shitty moves too.

Obviously, he's the best we've ever had. Nobody should really argue with that. Fox had his moments, and Capers did okay being a franchise starter. Siefert was pretty forgettable. But Ron has been better overall than any of them.

That said, I wanted him gone yesterday.
