Great read. I’m sold!

If you want a good vibe on Campbell and why I like him as a prospect, watch this:

Dan Campbell: We have to change the culture

It's Campbell's introductory presser when he was named interim head coach of the Dolphins. Of particular interest to me is the section from around 6:45 through about 13:30 where he talks about wanting the team and players to always be competing.

Interim coach of the dolphins. Let that sink in.

You may be right, I am just hesitant to say that Roman made or had a big impact on Jackson becoming a star.

Of course, the real questions we would need to ask are.

Who would Roman want as Offensive coordinator?

And could he get Cam back to stardom assuming Cam is healthy, or could he make Kyle Allen a star, or could he make whomever we draft a star?

You know, I took a quick look at his resume' again, and I was shocked that there's a pretty obvious name I'd forgotten.

Mike McCoy.

He and Roman were together for a couple of years in the Panthers early days, and he's available.

Watch the tape.

And the Dolphins at the time were an unholy mess at the time. That he went a game short of 500 taking over that squad was considered an accomplishment at the time.

I could totally get behind Greg Roman.  He's running a top notch offense in Baltimore, and whether our QB is Cam Newton, Kyle Allen or someone else, I could see us finally having the firepower to compete in the South.

Having Lamar Jackson. A great young TE and a couple of good tough backs help

Lamar Jackson makes a lot of things possible just like cam did

Harbaugh is a great head  coach.  Roman had a couple of failures.

In addition to Jackson, Roman  has  Harbaugh looking over him.
.....not sold on Roman.

Roman has actually worked for both of the Harbaughs now. He was under Jim back in San Francisco

No mention of Jim Harbaugh?

49-22-1 as an nfl head coach.

He’s a bit of a character and could potentially want more power than Tepper would be willing to offer, but this franchise has been so vanilla for so long that it’s time to take a chance.

I realize his college coaching tenure has been an up and down affair but the college game is so different from the pros. Bad and mediocre coaches are propped up by the brand name of their universities.  He inherited a mess at Michigan and has managed to turn that program around.

He’d be at the top of my list.

I'm not taking any of the college coaches too seriously as an option right now, honestly.

If I read something that says otherwise that could change, just not at the moment.

I'm quite shocked at the interest in Roman. That's like wanting Shula as your HC mid 2015.

That likely won't be popular but it is actually kind of a fair comparison.

I would say Roman probably does have an overall better resume' now than Shula did at the time.

I’m on board with that mindset for a guy like Lincoln Riley. I guess I just don’t put Harbaugh in that same class given that he’s been at this level before and had success (three straight nfc championship games battling arguably an nfc mini dynasty in the Seahawks and the legion of boom).

Marinelli as a DC would be great. And as long as we're poaching from the Cowboys, I wouldn't mind picking up Marc Colombo to coach the offensive line either. He and Campbell were teammates for one season in Dallas.

One of the theories I've knocked around in my head is Campbell getting his old colleague Joe Brady to come be his OC and maybe getting someone like a fired Dan Quinn to run the defense. Marinelli might actually be a greater likelihood if he's available because he coached the Lions from 2006 to 2008 while a certain tight end was playing there.

I will say, and you may have already seen this if you read earlier in the thread, a Colbert-Roman combo seems like something that could genuinely happen.

Would love Marinelli. Age is the only concern I have with him. Pencil me in for Colombo as the OL coach too. You’ve certainly done a good job at connecting the dots with all these coaches.

My main concern with Campbell is his whole philosophy on offense. It’s great that he has gotten a taste of what it’s like to be a head coach (I’ve seen him very closely living in Miami and he wasn’t really taken seriously here) but ball controlling run heavy offense? I believe we’ve grown accustomed to that over the years. Time of possession is great but you need to be explosive in today’s NFL. If you fall behind to the likes of the Saints, Chiefs and 49ers you have to be able to come back at them.

Campbell has never been a coordinator so we don’t exactly know what his thought process is in certain game time situations. Now, I can get onboard with Joe Brady taking full control of the offense while Campbell just handles the head coaching duties.

I’ve been swayed enough to want this:

GM: Colbert

Cap Specialist: Khan

HC: Campbell

OC: Brady

DC: Marinelli

OL: Colombo

I worry a lot less about the offensive side knowing he's worked with Payton for a while now.

Having looked at his history, there are a couple of other assistant prospects you might be able to get with Campbell:

Todd Haley (OC) was on the Cowboy staff for a couple of years when Campbell was a player

Joe Philbin (OC) was Campbell's head coach in Miami

Zac Taylor (QBs) also on the Dolphins staff and could be available if the Bengals dump him

Tony Sparano Jr (OL) also worked with Campbell in Miami

Mike Nolan (DC) currently the Saints linebacker coach

Kacy Rodgers (DL) the guy who coached up Shaquill Barrett has worked extensively with Campbell in the past

Mike Westhoff (ST) previously the Saints ST coach

Tony Sporano passed away in July 2018. His son, Tony Jr., is an assistant OL coach in Jacksonville and could be available.
