They may not look great, but I wonder how much of that is a result of Mitch Trubisky being at the helm?

Is Kyle Allen really that much better than Mitch? The bears cant run or pass the ball, we have almost 1000 more yards of offense than they do and their defense came back to earth.

Well, if I'm Cam. and I'm looking out for my future marketability beyond football, I'd still rather be in Chicago than Charlotte.  Especially if my career is going to end without a Lombardi.  Newton's personal brand will receive greater acceptance/visibility in a major metropolitan area like Chicago than it currently does in a conventional city like Charlotte.

Conversely, the Charlotte media has treated him, and other Charlotte "stars" with kid gloves over the years, because they are cheerleaders for the team and not there to perform actual accountability.  This is the case with most small market teams where the local media acts like an extension of the team's marketing for all intents and purposes.

This wouldn't be the case for Chicago centered sports media, which while not as vitriolic as Boston, NY or Philly, can still be quite biting.  It might be a double edged sword for an athlete with Cam's personality.

Cam has always been a polarizing sports celebrity.  Controversy has swirled around him since he became part of the national discourse over a decade ago.  So Cam is used to dealing with controversy and as long as people are talking about him it generates interest in his brand.  The last thing Cam wants is to be forgotten.  Cam would not be forgotten in Chicago, his brand would be amplified.

You are living in another reality if you think he's been treated with kid gloves by the local media.

I vividly remember the hysteria when he walked out of that SB50 postgame press conference. There were no kid gloves.

And we as Charlotte don't deserve stars like Chicago...

Here is a shocker:   Major markets like Chicago offer more national visibility for athletes than Charlotte.  That isn't a slam on Charlotte or a commentary on what Panthers fans deserve or don't deserve.  It is just reality.

Problem is, the 2020 Panthers will likely be in rebuild mode with a litany of issues, not the least of which is a porous O-line and no # 88.

Not a good situation for any QB, but even less so for one coming off of major injuries on the back half of his career.

Just seems to me that Chicago needs an upgrade at QB and Cam needs an upgrade in his supporting cast.

Match made in heaven for both parties looking to make it back to the big dance.

I also know the Bears. If the Panthers are stupid enough, sure. The Panthers have a waaaaaay better supporting cast than the Bears and in my eyes a better defense (when healthy).

You guys take Keep Pounding for granted. That doesn't mean draw down and turn into some mystical JV team who's brand new young coach, young QB is going to lead the Panthers to the SuperBowl again because everybody is old.

Cam, CMC, Luke are a Belicheat wet dream waiting to happen. Go head and hand them over and he may not retire. Charlotte doesn't deserve stars or good things just JV football.

So was Dennis Rodman's, not necessarily a good thing if he still cares about his on-field legacy

And there is no comparison of charlotte/NC media to that of a major market.  They chew up and spit out athletes without a care.  Meanwhile in the Triangle, Adam and Joe might as well be asking if players want a foot massage and any mints left on their pillow.

There is nothing to indicate that if Cam returns next season there will be any dramatic turn around waiting for him in Carolina.

All signs indicate a rebuilding year with a sketchy O-line and diminished capabilities at the TE position.   Cam's NFL career has been pretty much analogous to the movie Groundhog Day minus the happy ending.

If Cam wants to end his career taking a physical pounding in Carolina, more power to him.

You talked about "a player of Cam's caliber". My point is I don't think that player exists anymore, especially not if Igo is right about his shoulder (and there's evidence that he may well be).

Bottom line: The prospect of Newton returning to the kind of form he had before is very much in doubt. And any future strategy that counts on that happening is going to be extremely risky.

Worth noting that that's basically what we did this season. Look what happened.

Yeah but none of those shoulder issues seemed to rear their head. It was the foot.

I know brother! That is something Tepper should focus on. Like I've said here many times. We're not "favored" by Vegas the NFL or officials.

They couldn't figure out how to stop this force of nature in Cam Newton so they sanctioned an anyway possible 1985 football approach that only applied to Cam and we all know it.

"Your not old enough to get that call" He was talking to the franchise and that was disgusting, but honest.

When it comes to celebrities there is a saying...

"There is no such thing as bad publicity"

This is especially true with polarizing figures like Cam.

Cam has a personality that is meant for the big stage.
