You are putting a lot into your statement that I never even suggested.

This is about what Cam wants.

If Newton stays in Carolina for 2020 there is a good chance his most reliable receiver will have retired.  There is also that small issue of a horrible O-line that will likely get him killed and a coaching staff that will stand by and let it happen.

If Cam wants to survive long enough in the NFL to hoist a Lombardi Trophy over his head, chances are his chances are better in Chicago than Carolina.

Cam just stated that Charlotte is home, I dont see what Chicago cant even begin to offer for a QB of Cams talents.

If you take Cam's statement at face value then there is really nothing to discuss.

However, it is just possible a player going into the last year of their contract might say things that weren't necessarily true.

It wouldn't be the first time we've seen fan favorites do that sort of thing here in Carolina, is it?

What would you suggest a team offer?

Keep in mind that the rest of the league will probably be a bit nervous about him too

No but if we lose Cam and get nothing in return, and i would definitely consider a 3rd round pick nothing when talking about a franchise QB, then it will be one of the biggest mistakes in franchise history.

If they cant even offer a 1st round pick we should keep him. If they were that nervous i dont think so many teams would be thinking he would come in and be their franchises savior.

Moving on from Cam next season could very well be the biggest mistake in franchise history, or it could be a very wise decision.

There are just so many unknowns and variables at this point that no one knows for sure.

Maybe but my vote is in the disaster column if we just outright cut him and get nothing in return.

In the end, a new GM, new coach, an offensive and defensive scheme determined, then we get to players and who fits and who does not and who would should trade for, sign and draft.

Well, that is conventional thinking, who knows what the Panthers might do.

In the past, we just fire a D or O coordinator or GM and continue on.

Ok, I can see where you are coming from on that.

My take is this:

Cam has given the Panthers everything he has, heart, body and soul for 9 years and he his body has paid a heavy toll for it.

Newton returning to the same old, same old of weak O-lines and weak receiving corps is what got him into this situation to being with.  What does he have to show for it? NADA.

Cam isn't getting any younger, if he wants a Lombardi before he is too old to play, his best chance may be to cut bait when it comes to Carolina.

The bears OL and WR's are pretty comparable to ours.
