Cam says he wants to stay in charlotte.

2 things to remember, as has been partially said.

IF you want to keep a player long term, the conventional wisdom is that you sign him before the contract year.  I have not heard rumblings about contract negotiations with Cam.

On the other hand, an agent might not want his client going into a lame duck season with no future and might want to push for a trade where a long term deal can be had.  In this case, the client should say things like, " I want to remain in Charlotte".

According to CB Dellinger (who I believe has some kind of inside connection though I don't know what it is; he's known inside stuff before) Newton's camp has been trying to get an extension since 2017 but the Panthers have refused.

That jibes with what Jourdan Rodrigue said. She reported that Rivera and Hurney would have been willing to offer an extension but David Tepper wasn't, and isn't.

Cam deserves to play with an offensive minded coach. If Ron and Marty are gone I'm holding out hope that he gets a coach that can truly put together a competent offense and not the same BS we've seen year in year out with a little twist to make it different. If he flounders under that scenario then it definitely is time to move on.

Tepper isn't too bright, IMO, if he can't see the coaching and scouting department are the issues here. We have the talent all day, for the most part, save for the bench players. Every year, almost, it seems to come down to coaching or decision making by the GM. It's amazing how teams like the Saints always seem to have cap space where there was none and can get talented FAs in whereas we've been shopping at Dollar General and Dollar Tree for our FAs. It makes no sense whatsoever.

I really think that Cam's only issue is health.  It he is 100% he will be great again.

My question is, how great is Allen?  He shows a hell of a lot of potential.   Could he be the Panthers Drew Brees?

Drew Brees is a pretty big leap. Allen is fine as a backup, remains to be seen as a starter. It has been up and down, for sure.

Yeah, Brees is the NFL's all-time leading passer. I feel very, VERY confident saying that Allen will likely never threaten that record.

I think he could potentially be a Kirk Cousins or Jimmy Garappolo type. A guy who you can win with if you surrounded him with a very good overall roster.

Of which I'd say, if we're being honest, there are worse strategies.

You could make a pretty good argument that's how the Patriots win.
