Now that we are out of playoffs do you sit CMC?

Looks like I'm going to be in the minority here, but I say sit him.

How many times have we complained on this board about Rivera playing Newton when there was nothing to play for?

How many times have we expressed concern over the idea that McCaffrey was going to get run into the ground the same as Newton did?

I would sit him down and evaluate the other running backs we have. At the very least, reduce his workload.

Mind you, no way I believe it happens because Rivera is going to be trying to save his job.

Do I think that he should sit?  Hell yes, it's the smartest thing, and most obvious thing the team could do for the long term betterment of the team....and I'm 99/100 always in on that side of things.

However, he is young.  He is still on his rookie deal, and IMO he certainly wants to be remembered in this league.....  So, the real answer, is you likely talk to CMC and ask him what he wants.

"Christian, you have had a hell of a workload over the past 3 seasons, and we are now at a spot where we think it's probably best for you to either take a large portion of your work off your shoulders, or shut you down completely.  Do you want to get ready for next season, and the next 5 years, or do you want to chase a record?"

I would do whichever he chooses.

I get the logic of all that, but I would point out that the last time we let a player make that decision for himself, it didn't go so well.

If he says "bench me" he'll forever be labeled as a me first guy.

It's actually the exact opposite.

If he said "do whatever is best for the team long term", which is "bench me", he would be a team first guy, not a guy out there chasing "his" record.

Agree, to a point.  Difference is though, Cam wasn't chasing an all time record, and wasn't playing on his rookie contract.

I could understand if it was week 17... There are 5 games left. You don't sit uninjured guys for that long.  Would you sit CMC next season if we start 0-6? And why would the staff put him above Kuechly and company? If you're going to bench CMC might as well bench the rest of our top players.

I'm not advocating sitting him, see my first post in this thread.  But IMO the right way to go about it, is to simply ask him if we need to take the load off, shut him down, or keep rolling and let's try to get a record.  His father was in the NFL and is a very smart guy, CMC can bounce this stuff off of him if needed.....or just do like I would imagine he would and play it out for his team.

If I were the GM, I would sit Luke and CMC, if they wanted that....but I'm not, and I can't see either of them taking themselves off the field either way.

2 reasons not to sit him:

1. He is a football player, who is healthy. He lives for these games. Plus, this is entertainment and he is one of the few players that make watching the Panthers entertaining. Let him play.

2. He is my fantasy stud who will lead me to a championship...along with Lamar Jackson. :-)
