Opinions: need to rebuilt the Oline AND Dline

Possibly the worst Oline in the NFL right now.....if not the worst, then damn close. The Dline needs bulk and run stuffers. So who stays and who goes? Go heavy in the draft on lineman?

This can't go on like this past this season. Do they sacrifice needs at other spots to do this? If they can address these two problems, it would go a long way to starting the rebuilt.

Don't know how they can possibly accomplish this in one season. So who do you keep and who goes?

No no no Cam could change all this. Honestly I think it's our scheme and no LT. GVR also is a back up level guard. We really need to invest in building both line from the inside out and cut Turner and KK who both are not pulling their weight.

I mean, this is stating the blatantly obvious.

We only have two DTs under contract for next season and they both have big cap hits, they're both over 30, and they're both currently injured. As far as DEs go, hell we don't really have any outside of Mario and he's over 30 and on the last year of his contract too. The rest of our DEs are basically 3-4 OLBs.

The new regime us going to have some real evaluation to do on the OL. Do we desperately need better talent or are our current OL woes a product of injuries, inexperienced youth, and coaching? If they think Little and Daley are the answers and just need seasoning and coaching up then we could be closer to fielding a competent OL than we think. If they don't, then yeah... total rebuild.

Defensive line was already going to have to be rebuilt with the number of pending FA's we have (Addison, Irvin, McCoy, Butler, Poe, & Love).  That hasn't snuck up on anyone.

Offensive line is more tricky... the massively disappointing part is that the team has quietly invested quite a bit in the Oline after neglecting for years.  Moton, Little, & Turner were all high-to-mid 2nd round picks.  Turner especially has fallen off bad.

Paradis was a 6th rounder but was considered arguably the best FA Center available last year.  He, too, has massively underperformed.

Injuries and shuffling on the Oline have definitely played a part, but this group has not fared any worse than last year's group that on paper was much less talented.

In short, I think the team recognized the Dline was going to need to be rebuilt after the year due to the amount of pending FA's.  I think the team believed they had done enough to solidify the Oline for the time being while they focused on the Dline next year.

Fixing both lines and upgrading at backup QB were the priorities last offseason.  Our whole FA and draft strategy revolved around that.

Backup QB is obviously a success, although it was Allen rather than Grier that made it happen.

Defensive line was a short-term fix.  It looked good early on, and the pass rush is unquestionably much better.  Unfortunately, that came at a massive cost to the run defense.  It also wasn't tenable long-term the way contracts were structured.  Right now, that is a good thing, b/c I don't think there is anyone that we can't live without, although in a perfect world I would like to have Addison and Irvin back.

I'm trying to remain hopeful the long-term situation on the offensive line will be better.  Obviously that starts with Paradis and Turner playing better, because they are paid to be top-10.  Moton has not been as consistent this year, but I still think he can be a good RT.

Little and Daley have fought injuries and are rookies, but I'm hoping they will be able to lock down the left side starting next year.

In short, the offensive line is only going to get better if the guys we have play better.  The defensive line is only going to get better through the draft and smart FA.  Wish I had better news.

As far as the O/Line I would keep Taylor and Daley the rook from SC.  Little I would give one more year.  We are seeing he was not worth the 2nd round pick we invested in him last year.  The rest can go as far as I am concern.  Williams might be a decent guard but as a tackle he sucks.  Tai has had his day and not played well since he got paid.  Maybe a one more camp to see if he gets frighten to keep his job or trade him for a 5th or 6th round.

We don't need to overhaul the oline. We just need to get rid of Paradis, Williams and Maybe GVR. Little and especially Daley have been solid, Turner is not bad, and Moton is good for the most part.

Little looked solid early. He's looked like a speed bump ever since returning from his concussion issues. Hopefully it's just that from a rookie missing valuable time. He probably needs to put some better work on tape down the stretch though if he wants to prevent the next regime from going LT shopping.

Little is on the bubble.  I would give him one more camp and see how well he does.  I wouldn't have him starting until he proves he can handle the position.  He has been killed the last 2 games with LDE's beating anyone they put on his side.
