Who had a more successful 9 years with the Panthers: John Fox or Ron Rivera?

Owed a lot of the Super Bowl performance to Dan Henning.

(for whatever you thought of Henning, he was better than Mike Shula)

As far as the nice guy thing, I have heard that Fox was a total a--hole in private. Was said to have dragged Marty Hurney to a strip club during Super Bowl week.

Was also said that around the time he was jockeying for a new contract, his wife made a huge scene in the Panthers offices.

Jesus, I’ve never heard about any of that. I met Fox a few times, and he was always fairly cordial. But, you never know what goes on behind the scenes.

Sometimes we don't think of these guys in terms of coworkers, but it's true.

You've probably had a coworker, teammate, acquaintance or something that might have been really good at what they did but who you absolutely hated to be around. Maybe also a guy who wasn't that good but who was extremely likable.

People in pro football aren't immune to that. Why do you think so many teams we're willing to dump a player as talented as Terrell Owens? Or why Panthers teammates still had Jake Delhomme's back after the disaster against Arizona?

The nice guy/asshole thing...I really don't see that playing a part on the NFL level unless it's an *extreme* case like TO or a tiebreaker factor when deciding who to hire. Yes teams were willing to dump TO, but Kraft has kept Bill Belichick around for 20 years despite him looking like a terrible person to be around.

Jake Delhomme was better in the super bowl than Cam Newton was. Jake lost his game because of a kicker, Cam lost his because of him personally fumbling.

Cam lost his because he'd just been given 6 unflagged concussions. him with prime Smith would have been the greatest combination in NFL history rather than Smith having to carry a mediocre QB through the season.

That's true, but Fox would have made more than one Super Bowl if he had Cam. That 2008 team was loaded and Jake was really the only weak point.

Rivera has a distinct advantage at QB, if John Fox had Cam he would have won the Super Bowl.

John Fox  would have ran him up the middle every 1st down.

Honestly, this statement is true because of the pieces around him.  Fox always had a good O line and then of course Smitty and Moose, not to mention RBs like Davis
