Graham Gano has surgery. Will he be a Panther next year?

It's a weird disease for sure.

That said, I think this is a Ron thing, much more so than anyone else.

During Ron's career here, we have paid top kicker money to two different kickers...neither were good investments....but you gotta get those touch backs on kickoff ya know?

First Mare, then Gano.  Man this coach and front office are hard to root for.

How much difference there is between the coach and the front office anymore.

For whatever you think of Dave Gettleman, it's generally accepted that he was more than willing to tell Ron if he thought he was full of sh-t.

I'm sure Hurney doesn't always agree with Rivera, but does he really have a strong enough personality to override him? I'm not so certain.

Gano isn't a terrible kicker but he isn't Adam Vinatieri or something. Even he was replaced when the time came. Funny you mention Mare, him and Gano are actually right near each other in career accuracy. When we first signed Olindo almost everyone thought we got a good kicker, just goes to show how quickly things can change. Career wise Graham Gano is boom or bust truthfully. We still don't know what the future holds for Slye, but if he's also boom or bust for peanuts it's a no brainier who you keep. We have many pressing concerns for 2020.

There is nothing specifically "wrong" with having Mare or Gano as your kickers....so long as you pay them what they are worth.

Having the highest paid kicker in the NFL, that isn't one of the very best ALL TIME, is just a stupid front office mistake.

You just don't overpay those positions, especially once you have a franchise QB on his 2nd contract.  Value must be found, especially once you have a QB on his 2nd contract.

Big reason why I don't think it's enough to just move on from Ron Rivera.

If we're going to start a major rebuild, I definitely don't want to see Marty Hurney running it.

Yep, this. I think we'll see a complete teardown in the offseason. New front office, new coaching staff, the whole 9. With that comes a lot of roster decisions, like Gano.

Talked to an old Panthers employee who said Marty used to brag about having the highest paid player at one position or another. He thought that was something to be proud of.

That makes me cringe.

Oh I think it's going to be a bloodbath if we don't bring back Cam. That may seem like an odd statement to make but if we opt to roll with Allen, Grier or a drafted QB.....it will be full rebuild mode.

It may be the toughest offseason Panthers fans have seen in a long time.

I hope it is. It's time and that means new coaching staff.
