This fan base has absolutely checked out of this season in a way I haven't seen since 2010

Technically, every team in the NFL, Redskins and Bengals included, is talented.

What I fear is us doing something crazy like beating the Saints and then turning around and losing to the Redskins.

Honestly if we can’t make the playoffs I’d much rather we beat the Aints once or twice than the Redskins, Colts, etc. If we’re going to be out of it the only thing I don’t want to see is a Pats or Aints SB win, and would hate if they’re the two teams playing in it. We can help control one side of that and if we can’t win out and make the playoffs at least let us bring the Aints down a few notches and out of a potential bye.

Get rid of Cam and get prepared for 3-4 more years of it. Franchise QBs are rare.

What's baffling about it is the number of fans practically dancing in celebration as they await Newton finally walking out that door. For some that in itself is a silver lining.

I'm truly baffled as well. We're still sitting at 5-5 with playoffs still a possibility led by a rookie qb who has had his fair share of ups and downs but in no way has displayed complete ineptitude at the qb position where we all should be jumping ship.

Its funny, Allen just 2 weeks ago in the frozen tundra playing in some of the worst football conditions imaginable almost led the Panthers on a game tying 18 play drive. He made some phenomenal throws, and even though we lost, it was one of Kyle's best games to date.

That was 2 weeks ago. 2 fuging weeks ago.

The dude is still 6-3 as a starter, and most panther fans are completely giving up after one pretty shitty performance.

The huddle in a nutshell

Yes, I'm the party pooper, but...but for Allen, he wouldn't have needed to almost pull off a game-tying drive. He has been a turnover machine since September, & that will kill your against good---and apparently, bad---opponents. So let's not pretend that we haven't won a few notwithstanding Allen as opposed to because of Allen.

People may not agree, but I first thought that we'd have won the first two if we had Allen. Now, I don't even necessarily think that. And now, during our last couple of games I think that if we'd have just had mediocre QB play, we would've won those.

I guess what I'm saying is that if we had better QB play for all the games, except maybe for San Fran, we'd have one loss right now. And yet, people have been giving Allen a pass and blaming the defense & Ojline, though the defense and O-line, albeit far from perfect, have done enough to keep us in a position to win games.

Look around you. Attendance is down at the stadium. Conversation on here is down. WFNZ is getting less Panthers calls. It's really just the hardcores left playing out the string. Pretty sad. Feels like we're at our lowest point since late 2010. At least last year when we were losing 100 games in a row, we were still thinking we were going to have a healthy Cam back in 2019. This year? Outside of McCaffrey, there is absolutely nothing I'm invested in.

@Jeremy Igo had a good thread a couple weeks ago discussing how the potential of "no more Cam" has brought the fan base down.  I agree.  My hope, however, was that winning would offset that.  Unfortunately, Allen appears to have just been a flash in the pan, and I think the fans can sense we are about to have another Jimmy Clausen-esque season.  I'm already checked out for the most part.  Still interested in the team, but not willing to invest a whole Sunday on it at this point.

All fan bases tend to disengage to some degree as losses mount and making the playoffs goes from a good possibility to a pipe dream. Losses remove fans.  You never want to be playing meaningless games.

As more than a casual fan I watch all Panthers games, and I follow Panthers news in the off season. I'm here no matter what happens, but I see the writing on the wall. Kyle Allen isn't the answer just like Matt Moore wasn't. We need a star. The last time this happened we went Matt Moore -> Pickles -> Cam. The Key is don't linger on the wannabe. Cycle through the QBs until you find an obvious talent.

1. Superman is hurt and possibly gone forever. The face of the franchise. I always believed that Cam could will people around him To be better with the best example that 2018 playoff game against the Saints which I believe to be the best of his career...if only the Panthers had players who could catch

2. Luke has been made a non factor   Thanks for that new defense Ron

3. This team is soft &  ‘just glad to be here’ and get paid.   Hit them once, they are done

4. Rivera is just glad to be here too

5. Given items 1 through 4, when this team gets behind, it’s over

6. The Panthers are always on the wrong side of the blowouts And have started losing at home

it is time for the Marty and Ron show to be gone.  It really is that simple  it is looking like 2010 all over again

yet again, with 2/3s of the Nfl world watching, how do you honestly believe this team will perform this Sunday?

‘keep doing what you’ve always done and you will get what you’ve always got’

All teams have to experience the point where they lose their franchise QB. We've won 5 games with our backup, and while that was fun, it's not going to amount to anything but a lower draft pick. We can't have Kyle as our QB of the future because he can't throw the deep ball, and he's not Drew Brees or Tom Brady with the short and medium passes. Done deal. We need a QB.

I can't really quantify "hard core" and what that actually means, but I know of a LOT of what I would consider loyal fans that just aren't tuned in any longer...at least not "all in".

I think there are a few reasons for this.

1:  Awful stretch last season...just awful.

2:  Nothing changed about this team that had that awful slide last season.  Literally nothing.  Looking at you Ron and Marty.

3:  Cam not being able to get, or stay healthy enough to play, forcing us to play a lesser talent at QB.

4:  A lot of fan favorites walked off into the sunset last season.  TD, Pep, Kalil.

5:  We aren't a fun team to watch, outside of CMC.

This and I've heard a ton of people that are ready to walk away from their PSLs. Increased ticket prices have cut and they can't really unload them because we have been mediocre for so long in big games.

I cant take anymore Rivera ball. This team has no identity. Much like Fox, Rivera is overrated and still living in the 80s. I've seen 9 years of refusing to adapt to anything that might resemble a new century NFL team and I've had enough. At this point, I'd rather spend my Sunday afternoon babysitting at Chuck - e cheese than suffer through another shitshow ass kicking and a pile of missed opportunities.

I would never, under any circumstances, pay a LB Luke money. The LB position is not important enough to justify crazy money in a pass happy league. It's just too easy to pass and run no matter who is at LB. The rules favor offense and TDs, not locking teams down with LB play. That's 90's Fox ball.

Rivera is a good but not great coach. If we dump him I'm fine with it.

Marty lost his greatest draft pick Cam Newton to injury, and it's tough to recover from that. He did a good job, but if Tepper wants him out then so be it, but you better have a plan.

In hindsight, that advice John Madden gave him early on in his career kind of came back to bite him on the ass.

I'd generally say it's good to tell somebody to be who they really are. Where it backfires is when who you really are isn't very good.

It's the very reason that I wouldn't overpay to keep Shaq Thompson. But that's for another discussion.

Agree with your other points - I think the clock is ticking on the Hurney-Rivera era. As Scott said earlier, the era of JR won't be over until those he left in charge on the way out are gone.

It will be really interesting to see if that happens.  The only person I know who actually let his go was forced to do so because of financial struggles.  I'm not sure if he was able to sell them or not.

I know Tepper is pissed because according to his mini conference

“Every time we have a loss, my mood is shitty,” Tepper said

I think he will make coaching changes because it's affecting his mood and I don't blame him. I can't wait to see the changes and get a better coach.
