The Grier Question

If Allen bombs again against the Saints, the Redskins are up next. If you're going to give a mid-round rookie a mid-season shot, that's probably the best chance to get him wet behind the ears. Unfortunately, Ron also knows it's his best shot at notching another W so he would likely stick with the status quo because that's what Ron does best.

So just to be clear: you're criticizing the head coach of a professional football team for trying to win football games in a season where they're not eliminated from playoff contention?  As opposed to what...willfully tanking?

It comes down to Tepper and what his decision for FO/Coaching staff will be next year. Reason being, if he retains this mess again, then Ron/Hurney need to figure out if they think Allen is the long-term answer at backup. If so, then you keep him in to get as much experience as possible while Cam is out, since he's still basically a rookie anyways. If not, toss in Grier for evaluation and move on for good from him.

Now, if Tepper is sane and has plans to change up the coaches and GM next year (and god, I truly hope so), then you toss in Grier now, to fully evaluate who is good enough to survive a rebuild. That's about it, and it all stems from the owner's decision for next year.

grier is only a 3rd round pick because our FO is retarded and spent a  comp on him at the end of it.   nobody else was taking him in the 4th most likely.   ron is gonna wait until we're out of contention, probably.   but if the saints game goes like last week it could be sunday.   some of y'all thought allen sucked from the beginning, that's how i feel about grier.  he sucks.   if it comes to that this is just gonna end in a giant ball of dumpster fire.

This is a debate that's been whispered around the edges of some of the other discussion, but I thought I'd go ahead and speak it aloud.

If the Panthers were eliminated from playoff contention (a serious possibility at this point) would you want to play out the rest of the season with Will Grier as the starting quarterback?

Some have pointed out that we'd have nothing to lose by seeing what we have in him. Others have suggested that you take the risk of giving him David Carr syndrome by sticking him behind our current offensive line.

What's your take? Would you give him a shot?

Do you believe Ron Rivera would give him a shot?

At this point, they're out of the playoffs. Unfortunately Ron is going to be playing for his job so the players will make a sudden surge and we will be left with a what if conundrum. What if they sat Newton out and they won their two games? What if they( etc etc).

Yet the same regime will still be here the same problems will still be here. All of that... So Ron is going to play who he thinks will get him the win. As of right now since Allen has played and won more of his games than lost. He's not about to change the QB. I would love to see Grier get out there right now. Only way he does is through injury or Tepper tells him to do it, meaning Rivera will be gone at the end of the season.

If Grier plays now it will be an act of desperation from Ron and a bit of resignation from him to be honest because he will be acknowledging he's out.

Kyle is making too many mistakes putting us behind.

Kyle was trying to throw the ball away on that first pick and the D did hold them to a FG.  Can't help that the ST gave up that punt return that put us down by 10.

If you bench Kyle Allen you are done with him as a starter, end of story.

I don't think Ron will do that this season.

We've seen enough to hope Allen is done as a starter. Do we really think Grier can't be as good as Minshew? If so that's a 3 round whiff. Let's find out.

Of course.....Allen is a backup (at best), no matter what Rivera says. Tepper will not commit to resigning Cam. They have to know what they may have in Grier. They have six games to test the waters.

They CANNOT go into next season without a backup plan if Cam is gone. Rivera won't play Grier because of his job security concerns. If Tepper has sense, he should force the issue. I know that some will say that an owner should not interfere. This is not one of those times.

I want him to do well and really wish he'd done better but the other teams now know they'll get a turnover or two and it hypes them up gives them life. They're salivating. When you're trying to get a strangle hold on the game you can't keep giving them the ball. There is a third rounder behind him. As a UDFA you have to know INTS, and fumbles are the first thing to put you on the bench.

This whole play Grier thing has only come up because the Cam Nut huggers have taken their anger out on Allen and the other group is just in desperation mode thinking somehow a QB is not going to make our Oline a turnstile.

Says the Allen Ball Sucker lol

I don't see the downside in playing Grier. I don't buy the narrative that our line is too bad to play him. You either play well with less than ideal circumstances or you don't. There are plenty of QB's we can sign who can play with perfect protection and amazing receivers. I want to see if you can make something out of nothing, which is what we have offensively.
