DE Brian Burns – Defensive snaps: 336 (50.9%).
Burns has seen his playing time reduced ever since Bruce Irvin returned. He played just 16 snaps against Atlanta. Burns is simply too talented to be on the sidelines this much.

 

 

I think all have a very solid arguement for more playing time. How they are using Burns is criminal. Thoughts?

I wouldn't even give him that much credit. Our stud pass rusher who was leading the race for rookie of the year is only played 16 snaps vs Atlanta. It's one thing to be injured with the broken hand I get it. But the cast was off vs atlanta and he only got 16 snaps???

Scareltt is a mystery to me---unless you consider how much RR beats his show ponies.  Grier is lingering, but I hope they give him time.  I agree with all of these.

Haynes has come on strong, and needs to play.  He is not as young as people think--26 next month--so let's play him in his prime.

look at the Hornets....their coach has them on the court...they take their lumps, but are exciting to watch and are making progress

you have to earn it with rivera, well not really earn it but wait until someone gets hurt. by gawd that's the way it was when his grandpa played.  its so john fox it hurts.

Burns has pins in his right hand and can only line up on the right side because he can't plant his right hand. In addition to still having pain in his wrist. 

Once the pins are out you will see him get more snaps. 

Him punching the ground in that one game really screwed up his DROY year big time.

One of the things that has soured me on Rivera over time is the feeling that the more I watch his teams play, the more he feels like a Fox clone. Just out of touch with the modern NFL and stuck in a mindset from a bygone era.

things go in cycles.  he's waiting until he's just so antiquated that he's actually ahead of the curve - and then, oh man then, in like 2032, we're gonna be killin it.   you watch.   and save those short wide ties and skinny jeans too.  they'll be back

Exactly, he's injured.

Honestly, I'm glad we aren't seeing him as much.  Let him heal.  The guy showed more than enough to make me believe we've got a special talent there, and not screwing him up in his rookie year by forcing him to play hurt is protecting the franchise and player.

People spend their lives on this board discussing the team. I don't know how they dont pick up on what's going on with details like this

That's on Norv. Two years ago we were complaining about how Rivera split time up too much with the running backs. That was Shula. For those of you with short memories and havent picked up on how the different offensive coordinators have done things.

To be fair people peruse the board at different levels of attentiveness and involvement. I doubt I’m as dialed in as Mr. Scot or Linville Gorge or probably you.

Also, it’s not like there’s been some huge overriding topic of endlessly nauseating debate around here lately that could cause other info to get lost in the shuffle to those not actively combing through every thread for info.

One on the list that I just don't see is Ian Thomas. He's just not giving us anything -- looked good in pre-season but just does nothing when he gets out there. He only has to be better than Manhertz to see playing time and he isn't even clearing that low hurdle. He reminds me of old Swole Bones who had the look of being everything but wasn't really anything.

      I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...

      Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
