Will OL coach John Matsko be the scapegoat?

Perfect guy to blame it on. Dude was given the following this year;

Paradis- people here loved the signing, said Elway was a dumb f’er for letting him go. Dude couldn’t stop a nosebleed.

Little- Two concussions in less than half a season... nuf said

Daley- has been somewhat of a bright spot and could be good going forward

GVR- guy is one of the best pulling guards in the League but stinks at pass pro

Turner- still waiting for him to earn that big contract he got

Moton- was supposedly the best tackle we had going into the season. Has shown flashes but is still struggling

I don’t see anything that Matsko can be blamed for. He’s got a rep for being one of the best coaches in the League.

The fact that one guy, Moton, used to be steady but now looks spent and a free agent signing who was good in Denver but isn't anymore kind of works against the "he doesn't have anything to work with" argument. Guys who were good got worse.

Ef that

Fire Hurney before Matsko

He's only coaching up what he's given.

People rip Gettleman for failing to fix the OL, what has Hurney done this far that is any different?  Give a big contract to Paradis, the guy who his former GM said he was concerned with after the injury?

Yeah the defense didn't lose this.....

You’re  correct.  But I’m not basing my giving Matsko a pass because of this game.  He is trying to figure out how to get guys playing together in a revolving door at tackle.  Saddled with a big name center who is playing like the UDFA he is. Our highest paid guy Turner has looked mediocre this year.  Hell our best graded OL this year is an UDFA GVR.

Problem with our defense is that the secondary probably needs the most new players as upgrades while we're going to have to use resources to make sure the front seven is intact (we gotta re-sign guys and replace Poe and probably more with draft picks and those require high ones).

We're back to having to put off drafting a talented safety early because other positions need more help immediately. At least we got skill talent on offense.

We should've known the OLine situation was gonna be fugged in the offseason when they announced they'd start Williams at LT coming off a devastating knee injury that scared other teams away AND he was a RT up til that point. That was a poor, reckless decision from jump street and it's comical how little sense it made when you think about it

I did know and was sounding the freaking alarms!!!!  Everyone was stroking Hurney's ego because we got a *cough* left tackle *cough* at such a bargain!  That bargain has got our QBs killed.  To make matters worse, guys were then pimping Little as a sort of proven commodity as Williams insurance since we moved up in the draft and got a steal!  I went defcon 3 on that notion too. Little wasn't a steal, his draft stock was in a total free-fall.  I knew our OL was going to be a freaking nightmare this season, but I guess I was just the paranoid one.   Wait...what?  Nah, bump that...ya'll should have listened.

Little could probably be okay with a solid oline coach but he clearly needs time in the weight room and experience and A BETTER OLINE COACH if he's gonna be a player. The Williams thing shows poor judgment and honestly you can't trust those dudes to fix the QB position or secondary acting like that.

Honestly, our OL has underperformed for years, even with some obvious talent deficiencies. Matsko has a reputation among some as some OL whisperer but what OL other than Norwell performed at a higher level than expected? Hell, name an new OL under his tenure here that has maintained a high level of play.

Our offensive line hasn't been good in forever.

Incorrect.

in fact two games ago they were ranked 13th in the league. Albeit no doubting the last two games put them in the bottom half of the league.

Four issues: 1. We have good Individual olineman but not a good offensive line. The good ones are trying to compensate and do everything to help the bad ones and it just looks miserable. Some of the guys on the line are atrocious. 2. Inconsistency. One game we have 3 pressures all game the next we have 7 sacks. 3. Scheming. This is a big one due to reason 1. With a competent coach and reasons like 1 you’d put in help where it’s needed, adjust and let your good oline man do their work and sacrifice extra blockers for the bad ones.

Not ask the good ones to block 3 guys. Rivera’s style only works if everyone beats their man. Which results in a good play. There will be zero adjusting for those that don’t beat their man. Rivera is A-ok losing as long as he loses his way, and players will go out on their own terms. You can’t make this poo up. This brings me to the last point....Lastly 4: talent evaluation. Rivera is awful at this...how many fuging times do we have to see the back up or third stringer oline man outplay 1st team and only forced in due to injury? Makes you wonder if we’d look this awful if the proper players got more work in gelling with the oline in the offseason and leading into the season and players weren’t favored for whatever reason.

Being ranked 13th against weaker teams doesn't make me wrong any more than it makes our offensive good, because it's not!. Surely you know that...
