Nick Wright: If Panthers move on from Cam, they’ll be drafting a QB in first round of 2021 draft

Yeah, there may be a few teams that would meet that criteria, but the number of teams interested would likely increase dramatically if his health wasn't in doubt.

A solid performance by Cam in 2020 would likely increase the number and quality of contracts available for his signature.

A disastrous performance in 2020 would leave him with no suitors at all.

Right now the Insiders say Newton won't play without an extension and the Panthers (Tepper specifically) won't give him one.

For Newton to be a Panther next year, one of those sides has to change their mind.

But if the Panthers don't, and someone else will...

So I agree we cannot give him an extension without a prove it year.   Surely, no team is going to trade for him and sign him to an extension without seeing him play.

Wouldn't be so sure of that.

Trading for his current contract is actually pretty easy. But again, he wants an extension.

If he hits the open market, would somebody give him a two or maybe even three year deal based on the idea that he's "finally healthy"? Given that he will have sat out most of this season, I think it's possible.

General consensus among analysts right now is that he will play next year. Just not for us.

How long will he play? That's kind of an important question.

His premise that Cam has 5 years left is being incredibly optimistic.

His premise that Allen is not the long term answer is making a decision on far too small a sample size.

If kyle allen had that much promise he would have been DRAFTED to begin with. Thats just reality.

Speculating that the shoulder is done is just as worst as any Whitlock take.

Scar tissue from the first surgery was a big component in the wear down of the shoulder in 2018 from what I remember was said.

now you have cam with a new throwing motion to take stress off the shoulder, plus a full year for not only the shoulder to rest but his foot as well. Regardless of how you feel that’s trending in the right direction of getting healthy.

nick wright ain’t wrong, in my cris Carter voice, panthers run the risk of wasting 2-3 seasons if Newton, Allen, or Grier isn’t the long term answer. Allen is good enough to keep us from drafting top 10, so getting a qb is going to require some luck and a trade up, which I’m not a fan of giving the amount of success top 10 qbs have had.

besides this team is far more equipped for a overhaul in 2021 than 2020 just by looking at fa and contracts we can get from under

The Cam Newton of a few years ago would have been.

The Cam Newton of right now may or may not be.

And that's what people have to realize. Those are two different guys.

That is yet to be determined. Teddy is a great example and Cam Newton is not Teddy. He will play at a very high level once again and come back in another uniform to stomp your JV team.

Quick, somebody tell Kurt Warner, Jeff Garcia, Warren Moon, Jake Delhomme and Tony Romo they can't be long term answers.

Quick....tell me how many championships, mvps those guys have between them?

Better yet....tell me how does Kyle Allen with his 10 TDs and 10 turnovers and other traits fuging compare to any of these guys?

I will do you one even better than that. WHY the fug are you looking for the next Jake Delhomme in the first place???
