Nick Wright: If Panthers move on from Cam, they’ll be drafting a QB in first round of 2021 draft

Tepper won't get rid of a Cam Newton that can be healthy again.

Unfortunately, from what I understand they don't believe he can be healthy for any significant amount of time.

I'm not connected to anyone with the team, so strictly my personal opinion. But I also doubt Cam will ever be truly healthy again. It's a damn shame. I love Cam and would love for him to be right again.

Is there a risk involved?  Absolutely.

However, if Cam is wanting to be paid like a top tier QB he is likely going to have to demonstrate he still has the physical ability to play like one.

The best chance he has to do that is as the Panthers QB in 2020.

Otherwise his market value with other teams will be limited, since any team signing Cam will be doing so on faith.

What if there's someone out there who's willing to give you an extension without you "proving it"?

Or perhaps more to the point, what if you believe there is?

Cam Newton would be the absolute BEST QB the Bears have had EVER.

You guys really want to jump into THAT abyss?

Be the NFLs guests and do it willingly like dummies.

The Cam Newton of a few years ago would have been.

The Cam Newton of right now may or may not be.

And that's what people have to realize. Those are two different guys.

Someone else pointed out that some of the younger crowd might be dealing with seeing a hero in decline for the first time. Hence, they may be extremely resistant to it.

Oldsters who have been around for a while have seen this play out dozens of times. We know how the story ends.

Father Time is undefeated.

Ok boomer

Preaching to the choir here. People seem to think that thinking 2020 Cam isn’t the answer means we never liked Cam or we wouldn’t take 2015 Cam back in a heartbeat. Some of us just don’t think we’ll see 2015 or even 2018 Cam before Ds realized he couldn’t throw deep.

Pretty much.

He couldn't throw deep because he injured his shoulder in a dirty hit.

Yeah, there may be a few teams that would meet that criteria, but the number of teams interested would likely increase dramatically if his health wasn't in doubt.

A solid performance by Cam in 2020 would likely increase the number and quality of contracts available for his signature.

If Tepper changes everybody and everything there is no guarantee that you'll get a better product, especially if he fully relies on analytics. Analytics can't make sense of nonsense.

Let me ask you this.  What have you seen from the Panthers over the past 2 years that makes you think that we aren't an average football team?

What has this team done over the past two seasons that make you think we will be an above average team moving forward?

His broken foot is the reason he isn't playing this year.

The point was clear. Cam couldn't throw deep because he was playing with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Cam has a degenerative condition in his shoulder.

Will rest help it?  Maybe.

Will another surgery be in the future?  Maybe.

Can Cam last an entire season and offseason, plus at least 3 more?  Maybe.

Those "maybe's" are why we are having this discussion.  Before a team can hand him a deal, they will need to turn those maybe's into yes's.  Now again, if Cam wants to play out his contract and show the team and the rest of the NFL that he can get healthy, and STAY healthy, then by all means, trot him back out there.  If he's not willing to do that, then he will be gone from here.
