Nick Wright: If Panthers move on from Cam, they’ll be drafting a QB in first round of 2021 draft

Nick Wright is, in my opinion, one of the best NFL pundits out there.  This morning he was saying that it would be a mistake for the Panthers to trade Cam Newton when he has at least 5 years left in the tank when healthy. His shoulder and foot injuries are not career ending and top QBs don’t grow on trees.  He also doesn’t think Allen is the long term answer for the franchise.

This assumes that Cam wants to stay, which he may not, but if he does, we should retain him in a prove it year and bite the bullet on $19 million.  Well worth the risk for the best QB we have ever had.

If the Panthers want Cam to stay, Cam has no choice because they can franchise him until ALL his juice is gone.

If Tepper wants to "win" he needs to figure out how to be "favored" like the teams the NFL WANTS/needs to win. That is the problem. Rebuilding won't gain favor. New coach/QB just falls into the NFLs hands as to why you're not "winning" it all. Don't be fooled.

If you've got a good organization, keep it. If Cam went to the Patriots, he gets those flags. Tepper needs to get on the competition committee.

So he is writing off Grier as well?? We have two young options with potential. To assume both aren’t the answer when one is a 2nd year undrafted rookie and the other is a rookie who is basically redshirted is pure speculation with minimal (if any) data behind it.

I think the the future of the position will be directly tied to what happens with our head coach and general manager. Until those decisions are made, the rest will be purely speculation.

His premise that Cam has 5 years left is being incredibly optimistic.

His premise that Allen is not the long term answer is making a decision on far too small a sample size.

well thats moronic considering this is the first time he's ever missed any significant amount of time.

Cam hasn't looked like the Cam all of us remember and love in a long time.  We all know he was playing hobbled in 2018; to claim that "he has only missed a couple games before this season" ignores that fact.

The Panthers have some inside information, I think.  I do not believe a guy like Tepper would drop someone like Cam without good reason.

His arm wasn't the same as early as training camp 2018.

Yeah, but his accuracy was the highest it had ever been and they were 6-2. No shoulder issues.

For the NFL not to be viewed as a crooked organization by Panthers fans who've been watching their team get screwed BEFORE Cam and their fears proven to be true AFTER Cam major positive changes in officiating would have to be made.

Lol. Yeah

our oldest starting wr is what, 23? our rb is 23. we basically already have started over, we would probably need to move on from Shaq and a few others but you could look at the panthers roster already and see that it is rebuild ready.

to add onto this point, when our WR core and CMC are in their absolute primes, Cam will be like 35. so this is the first time i'll ever say this but it honestly would serve the Panthers to have a young QB who will be in his prime at the same time as the team's core.

Tepper won't get rid of a Cam Newton that can be healthy again.

Unfortunately, from what I understand they don't believe he can be healthy for any significant amount of time.

That's the sad part there. Good thing KA seems to be the future.

Lol. Yeah

Go look at his completion percentage in the 3-4 games following the Steelers game. Maybe one this bullshit narrative will stop.

Hint: It’s as good or better.

I would love to have a young QB that would be growing with CMC and Moore (and Samuel, although I am less certain with him these days).  I think next year will be very important for a quick reboot of the team.  We really need to upgrade the OL for whomever is QB... but... the defense is where I am honestly more concerned - we have invested so many assets there, to be unable to stop the run at all... ugh.
