Nick Wright: If Panthers move on from Cam, they’ll be drafting a QB in first round of 2021 draft

drafting a rookie qb is like starting over....for every Mahomes its like 10 Tribuskys

our oldest starting wr is what, 23? our rb is 23. we basically already have started over, we would probably need to move on from Shaq and a few others but you could look at the panthers roster already and see that it is rebuild ready.

it echoes what Jordan Rodrigue has been saying. Ron and Hurney are huge Cam cheerleaders who want him to stay, but Tepper isn't sold on if he will ever be healthy.

And to be honest, there is nothing wrong with him feeling that way.

It's his team, his money.  If Cam wants to prove his health and play out his contract, I'm sure that Tepper would love to keep him.  IF Cam doesn't, and I cannot imagine that he would, then there will be decisions to be made.

Just where we are, and it sucks.

Well, all is transient in life and in football. As much as I love some particular players (including Cam), seasons, games, etc, I try not to get too attached. I just have fun watching things unfold.

Having said that, I'm in the camp that thinks Kyle has shown enough to warrant a longer look. I think he can be a solid QB in the league. And of course, teams are always looking to upgrade. You're never out of the market for any position if you have the opportunity to improve your team.

Agreed.  I think this rebuild has been in the works for over a year now.

Nick has kept the stance that the Panthers should not move on from Cam, but this morning he did say that he thinks they will (for those that didn't watch the vid).

I keep seeing Fields name pop up, are we really ready to give the reigns to an OSU QB?  They are always in the conversation, and always end up being flops.

I don’t think Fields can enter the draft yet. I’ve seen Jordan Love’s name to the Panthers next year.

You maybe ok with rebuild but im not, this team has never been good enough for me to be ok with a rebuild. I would much rather just pay Marcus Mariota to push Allen and see what happens

i've just recently came to the realization that i'm equally happy co-cheering for Cam on another team as i am if he stays here, which is probably a unique outlook among huddlers so i certainly also understand people wanting him to stick around on the Panthers (which i also prefer).

Mariota is a name i never thought of in Carolina but honestly he's been incredibly under-served by his OCs in TN and could thrive elsewhere.

Nick Wright is, in my opinion, one of the best NFL pundits out there.  This morning he was saying that it would be a mistake for the Panthers to trade Cam Newton when he has at least 5 years left in the tank when healthy. His shoulder and foot injuries are not career ending and top QBs don’t grow on trees.  He also doesn’t think Allen is the long term answer for the franchise.

This assumes that Cam wants to stay, which he may not, but if he does, we should retain him in a prove it year and bite the bullet on $19 million.  Well worth the risk for the best QB we have ever had.

IMO Nick  Wright is a babbling idiot. Another talking head who has never been an athlete and says what he thinks is politically correct

Tepper won't get rid of a Cam Newton that can be healthy again.

Unfortunately, from what I understand they don't believe he can be healthy for any significant amount of time.

well thats moronic considering this is the first time he's ever missed any significant amount of time.

There is a lot of uncertainty to what shakes down the rest of the season and this offseason. I would guess spending a 1st on a QB in 2021 is a solid possibility at this point. I dont see us being in a position to get one this year without selling our future and I'm never hoping for that. I also dont see the path to reconcile with Cam without a new contract and this has been handled poorly on too many levels to safely do that. Blame who you want, there is plenty to go around.

I've seen Love as well (hoping for Newman from WF, myself), but I think the suggestions here are around 2021 prospects.
