Nick Wright: If Panthers move on from Cam, they’ll be drafting a QB in first round of 2021 draft

(i)  Agreed.

(ii)  Interesting.

So does this portend for a straight cut in your opinion?  Would some other team take on a broken down Cam that the Panthers have given up on?

The money line from this video of Cam is "one man's trash is another man's treasure"....  (nervous laughter upon delivery)

....kind of crazy foreshadowing given the times.

(i) also agree

(ii) very interesting

You bet your goddamn dollar there would be teams breaking down the fugging door for a healthy cam.

If you have to be worried about his health, would mean you have to be worried about the protection he is given, just like any other goddamn qb in the league.

If I'm any team, with any kind of line, I'd put cam behind it all damn day.

This off season, if we want success with cam, you give him the same fugging thing you give any other healthy qb. An oline worth a damn, a defense that isnt swiss cheese, and a next level running back (cmc).

But by all means, let's leverage our future on good backup qb play, with poo run defense, and force him to throw our way into victory

I do not think we can assume that because Luck had a good season on the arm, Cam will too.  But that is also just me - we are both speculating there.  And I hope I am wrong, hah.  But I think the reason Cam was IRed is because the management knows there is more going on than the injured foot and knows regardless of its status he won't contribute this year.

I agree that it is a gamble to move on from any player like Cam.  But it has also been many years since Cam completed a season healthy and with a high level of play.  And it isn't just a matter of "keep Cam, or lose Cam."  Cam isn't going to want to play on a one year deal, and the Panthers may not want to extend him without a lot of caveats he may be unwilling to take.  Would I retain Cam on a team-friendly deal, whether it was his current contract (which IMO is pretty friendly overall) or a multi-year flexible extension with team options to get out?  Sure, but that isn't what Cam is likely to want to do, and he most definitely will draw interest in a trade.

as to teams looking for decades for a player like Cam... yeah, sure, that is true, but teams don't need a generational talent to compete at all. And when was Cam last "a player like Cam" for an extended period, anyway?

Look I hope I am wrong, I really do, because despite my vehement defense of our young backup QB, I also love Cam and wish he finished a very long and fruitful career here.  I just feel that the evidence is mounting something more is going on.

A very reasonable take I can disagree to much. It's a gamble either way.

Of course there would be.

However, Igo seems to be saying the team has reached the conclusion that Cam doesn't have the ability to stay healthy.

One way to find out, Cam needs to prove it next season.  Put up a big year and then sign a monster 5-year deal that starts in 2021.

The question is, when Cam eventually leaves, do you want to get something or not for him? If not, you have to be for sure you can make a SB run with him next year. Problem is we’re likely already firing this staff.

Then if not and next year is like the last two, we’ll be sitting on our dicks the with a guy that no one will trade for and we won’t extend because he’s shot. Well get zilch. Nada. And then truly have to blow everything up. All because people want to give it one more shot. It’s a toss up but I think our FO is wavering on an earlier retool and will be looking at the business end. Risk v reward and we’re already showing we can float above 500 without him. Not me, but I think the organization has its mind made up and it should be pretty obvious no matter how emotional or big of a Cam fan you are.
