Nick Wright: If Panthers move on from Cam, they’ll be drafting a QB in first round of 2021 draft

I felt more confident in young Jake at this point in his tenure. He had a couple INTs but didn't have a turn over problem as big as Allen.

just a bit of perspective - remember that Jake was signed by New Orleans in 1997.  He didn't start for us until 2003.  He played 2 games for NO in 1999.  But he did play in the European league a couple of season.  Anyway, by the time he played for the Panthers, he was ... what, 28 years old?

And... Jake had 15 fumbles in 2003.  *15*!  I don't think Allen will get to 15 this year.  Gah, I hope not, hah hah.  I'm not super worried Allen's fumbling... last game was bad, but I wouldn't call the exchange a persistent problem for him.

Why would you even think that when everything went downhill after the steelers game?

Besides that a quick google check won't do any harm

Of course the Ravens game was before the the Steelers game. It was also during the period where Cam Newton was looking like an MVP candidate.

I was being facetious because Cam Newton throwing a hail mary had nothing to do with his overall performance.

Lastly, the reason we picked the Steelers game is because that was when he took the shot fromTJ watt and never looked the same afterwards.

With what. You know how much draft collateral it cost to get into the top 5 which probably isn't enough top 3 to land Lawrence lol. Go look at what was given up to get those picks for the Redskins with rg3 or any top 2 pick qb. Astronomical cost we dont have and would set the franchise back even further if you miss... again this plan isn't viable. I dont see any upside to moving on from newton at this time.

Its safer to see what he has left. You already know when healthy he is one of the better QBs in the league so that's his ceiling. If he gets hurt you lose what19 million which is less than Andy dalton is making 19th most in the league for mvp potential upside. At worst allen comes in but in either case you won't lose enough to get Lawrence with cmc and the core around him.

Team is in its prime win now without a definite answer mode. Logically your kinda stuck with cam bro sorry.

Agreed and this is why I am willing to "throw" away a season next year to see if Cam is and can be healthy again.  If not, I can accept next season being like this one and move on from there.  For me that is worth it to see.

Here's the thing about "throwing away a season" for any reason though...

For some veteran players, that's probably going to be their last season.

For other guys, it's going to be a contract year when they're looking for their next paycheck.

For some young players, it might be their only chance to make an impression.

If you make it all about one guy, even if that guy is a quarterback, you're risking screwing over several other players on your team in favor of gambling on that one player.

Is that a fair thing to ask?

I do agree what you are saying could be true in a different situation.  But in this one that is not the case, unless you are saying we are going into next season with a "franchise" , top level or good QB.  So next year its going to be Kyle Allen and who?  So anyone in the scenario you describe is looking at that already no matter what.  Maybe the word "throw away" is the wrong words, but also why I put it in quotes.  Next season is going to look like this one at the QB position almost no matter what, so I'm seeing if Cam can come back.

We’re fixing to lose Cam and Shaq next year along with McCoy, Love, Tre, Addison, Irvin, Cockrell, Butler, Hogan, Daryl and whoever else. And we don’t have enough money in cap to replace them. This team is about to be a top 5 team in the draft.

Half those guys you named aren't starters really.. depth guys. Like Irvining replacement burns is already on the roster. Addison I dout we let walk if we do Haynes has proven adequate in the pass rush. Hogan already hadn't playing. Butler will be replaced with short. Only real loss if they dont resign is shaq and addison lol.
