It’s not just Cam Newton

Everyone here whines and cries about it’s the o-line, WRs, D-line... Kyle Allen very well might not be better then Cam Newton.... but in 2020 he is 21 million cheaper (with a trade). Is Cam Newton coming off an injury 21 million dollars better then KA? I don’t think so. 21 million will buy a “decent” LT... best case scenario with Cam returning. We are cap strapped after extending bradberry and Shaq and can do nothing but draft... Cam goes 10-6 and does just enough to demand 40 million... explain how that makes more sense then giving KA a fair 2-3 year deal?

You do realize that if you don't pay Cam you're going to pay someone else that right? You won't be able to use that money to sign anyone. Kyle Allen or whoever else will be asking for that money, or more. At best you're looking at keeping Kyle for a year on a very cheap contract, though that's if he plays poorly the rest of the season. If he plays very well, then why would he go into the next season with the Panthers without holding out?

The only scenario where the Panthers benefit cap wise by trading or cutting Cam is if they draft quarterback or roll with Grier. One way or another they're going to have to pay a quarterback this year, or next. You can't sign anyone to a large contract this off-season with a looming franchise quarterback contract on the horizon.

Kyle is an exclusive rights FA

In all due respect, the only argument I have heard is Cam vs Allen. I have not seen any discussions of cap reasons for Cam’s return. Kyle is 750k next year ... you can front load Shaq and Bradberrys deals and go for a championship next year with Kyle having 2 full seasons... if we suck, we draft a qb... I think Kyles cap situation is more appealing then Cam. I feel a discussion on the cap more then deserves its own topic.

My point is Cam can be healthy in 2020, but he will be rusty coming off an injury, KA after going 10-4 11-3 in 2019 on a cheap deal in 2020 seems more appealing. Even 9-7 for cam could have him demanding $32+ million

You have to do what you can to get Cam healthy or just blow it up.

This team isn’t making the playoffs without a healthy Cam and an extra 19 million in cap space isn’t going to change that.

I disagree. X2 wins vs ATL, 1 win vs Washington and 1 win vs Indy, NOx2 or Seattle has us at 10-6. I don’t buy the whole 11-5 or nothing. Heck, saints can beat us in NO and if we go into week 17 10-5 and they lose to INDY and SF, they’re 11-4 and week 17 is for the NFC south due to tiebreaker 3.

It may be best to wait until offseason before making a decision on contract related questions.

It’s not a make my blood boil discussion. It was a more I haven’t seen this considered, what do y’all think? I’m not trying to start wars, but nobody has talked about the financial savings of 21 million to sign Bradberry and ST long term and get a top offensive or defensive lineman. I just don’t think cam is going to have the bounce back year necessary to attain that. I say spend the extra cash on the best tackle available, offer Allen like $10 million A year for 2 years in exchange for signing for 2 years instead of making 750k to keep the relationship between the team and him (a missed factor) positive. I don’t think KA will be happy with the idea of starting 16 nfl games for 750k. My point is KA and Cams risk are about the same. KA you win you get 17 years. Cam you win you get 2-3.
