2020 HC Candidates

A few years ago Giants fans "had enough" with Coughlin, forcing him out too.  Didn't think he'd ever be capable of coaching a SB team going forward

Just about 5 years later and they've been one of the most losing teams in the entire NFL in that span with no end in sight.

The Panthers are not a good enough franchise historically that they can be arrogant enough to boot out a coach with an overall winning record and a current winning record.

Coach Rivera will still be on the sidelines next year, haters.

Any thoughts on Greg Roman? Seems to be doing wonders with Lamar Jackson in Baltimore and might do well here IF the Panthers can somehow retain Cam. He and Vic Fangio (I don’t see him lasting in Denver beyond this year) would be a great coaching tandem and both have history with this organization. And Fangio is a great DC but a below average HC.

Always a fan of Roman. I really don’t know how he’s not a HC yet. Roman was fantastic at SF with Kaepernick. Doing the same with Jackson now. I’d like to see what Roman can do with someone like Jalen Hurts, Tua or Jordan Love

I’m assuming it would be hard for Tepper to fire Ron if we get to 10 wins/ miss playoffs with an undrafted qb. Say what you want about Ron but he doesn’t control who gets hurt and Cam missing 14 games is huge.

of course if the team proceeds to get their butts kicked in the last nine games and we end up with a losing record or even .500 then I can see Dave going after someone else.

Takes like this is why the huddle is seen as so delusional to outside observers.  Rivera is on pace with a 2nd year UDFA QB for a 10 win season or damn close to it despite a brutal schedule and a 0-2 hole b/c the starting QB lied about his injury, and was easily on pace for that last year when the same starting QB got his shoulder turned into swiss cheese and proceeded to put up bottom 3 starter stats the rest of the year.  This isn't McCarthey missing the post season despite having one of the top 3 QBs all time.

In most unbiased people's eyes that puts him in the category of good-borderline-great, yet this board actually thinks he's on the verge of being fired.  Delusional.

How many first and second year coaches right now are posting that kind of record?

Go ahead, look it up, I'll wait.

And... thanks for playing. I appreciate your enthusiasm but I'm going to have to mark you down as missing the boat.

List of recent coaches:

Nagy, Reich, and McVay made the playoff in their first year as HC. McVay went to the SB in his 2nd year.

Doug Pederson won the SB in his 2nd year.

Anthony Lynn went to the AFCC in his 2nd year.

Rookie HC Matt Lefleur has the Packers at 8-2 this year.

McDermott got the Bills to the playoff in his first year. And this year is 6-3.

Gruden is 5-4 with the Raiders in a season where people said they were going to suck after losing AB.

Varabel won 9 games last season as a rookie HC barely missing the playoff. Is at 5-5 this year and in the playoff hunt.

Kliff Kingsbury with a rookie QB has won 3 games, tied 1 out of 10 games. Doing so playing in a tough NFC and even toughER division with the Hawks, Rams and Niners.

Need me to say more buddy? I did the look up. thanks for playing. I appreciate your enthusiasm but I'm going to have to mark you down as missing the boat.

He is a defensive coach who has the worst run defense in the NFL. And he hasn't won a playoff game since 2015.   I think Tepper will look at how the team is trending, and since the SB, we have been trending downward.

That being said, his status rest on what happens the rest of the season.  8 or less wins, he is likely gone.  9-10 and things or uncertain.  11-12, and he is good.

The coming weeks are considered to contain the more difficult stretch of our schedule.

People are assuming we'll finish well  because we started well. That's not necessarily true.

No this is not how things work.  Coaches winning 8-10 games don't get fired in the NFL. You can shout 'BUT FOX' or 'BUT MCCARTHEY' all you want, but those were rare extenuating circumstances, i.e failing with a top QB of all time on a roster loaded with talent.  Not a team riddled with underperformers, injuries, and starting a UDFA with one game under his belt.

If we finish out 0-7, 1-6 or even 2-5 it might be a different story, but there's maybe 3 or 4 coaches in the league who would win more games with this roster as it stands than Coach Rivera.

I sure wouldn't be happy with Nagy, Pederson or McVay's situations this year. Lefleur inherited a good base and a HoF QB. McDermott gets to play the Jets and Dolphins twice a year (but, yeah, I do believe he's a helluva coach), Vrabel is coaching lights out and Gruden, let's watch the long play here... he was 4-12 in that first season.

Kingsbury... let's not crown the guy yet.

Lynn ... those Chargers look pretty bad, barring that upset of GB.

Onwards... Zac Taylor with the Bengals, Freddie Kitchens with the Browns, Vic Fangio with the Broncos, Matt Patricia with the Lions, Brian Flores with the Dolphins, Pat Shurmer with the Giants, Adam Gase with the Jets, Bill Callahan and heck, even Bruce Arians is struggling with Tampa. Half or more of those guys will be the ones sending out HC resumes at the end of this season. Not a one of them would be an upgrade.

And the good college coaches... they aren't moving. They are kings of their domains with better money and limitless fodder for the cannons.
