Opinions: could they afford a 19 million cap hit?

I would take this cap hit. I mean it's not like these are the same reoccurring injuries. The foot injury was a random break accident. No one could have seen this coming. And based off what we seen in camp his shoulder or arm is good enough to still put some heat on passes. So what are the other options? Kyle? He cant get it done vs superior competition. He's competent but not above average. He's not say teddy Bridgewater.

I think this franchise has been spoiled by cam over the years and doesn't remember what it's like to find a good starting qb. Hell the dolphins haven't had one seen Marino.. browns just as long because Baker looks iffy... I roll with cam 19 million is less than most good starters make he's earn the chance to prove us wrong and get his job back.

Gonna throw this out there. Could they realistically  afford the 19 million to resign a QB with the needs that this team has? Between the vets they have to resign, the obvious needs on both lines (with other needs), and CMC to try and lock in....it was never feasible.

I feel that Tepper is not considering doing the deal (or really ever was.) Cam wasn't his guy and he has no reason to have allegiance to him.

What is your opinion.....was it just a pipe dream that this would all work out and was never realistic financially ?

Better question is, if Cam wasn't 'his guy' what would make him want to keep Rivera and the brass? Cam is one thing but this staff? Honestly, if he's adamant about moving on from cam. I don't see why he'd keep Rivera and Co.

So take the cap hit and put a sh%t team on the field because they can't afford to resign anybody or add any talent....and have to settle for lousy to mediocre again??? No thanks..Cam wouldn't last a season with the sh%t Oline.

I think Tepper feels Rivera is a good coach and he has been advised by many he trusts of the same.  He had reservations about Cam from the start and that is a huge reason he won’t pay Cam top dollar and well as Cam not playing well or being able to stay healthy since Tepper purchased the team.  Not all of the aforementioned is Cams fault, but it solidifies teppers reservations  about cam.   Honesty, I think as long as Allen plays well and the team wins 10 games Rivera will be retained.  Tepper knows the pulse of the staff and he will do what he feels is right, which I feel is keeping Rivera.

we affording them already,... cam already in the budget... Cam is making waaaay less than he should have been making cam got one of the more market friendly deal in the league as is. Plus if you extend him you can kick the can down the road on the cap hit.. this is a no brainer.

You do realize that if you don't pay Cam you're going to pay someone else that right? You won't be able to use that money to sign anyone. Kyle Allen or whoever else will be asking for that money, or more. At best you're looking at keeping Kyle for a year on a very cheap contract, though that's if he plays poorly the rest of the season. If he plays very well, then why would he go into the next season with the Panthers without holding out?

The only scenario where the Panthers benefit cap wise by trading or cutting Cam is if they draft quarterback or roll with Grier. One way or another they're going to have to pay a quarterback this year, or next. You can't sign anyone to a large contract this off-season with a looming franchise quarterback contract on the horizon.
