Has the defense pretty much looked the same for 9 seasons?

The Colts defense during the Manning era was built around that whole idea.

That's what Ron Meeks wanted to do when he came here as well.

I never thought it was a very good one.

Yep.  And it's not just teams getting 5+ yards a pop...

We're giving up 10+ yard runs at an alarming rate (IIRC Aikman mentioned it was the worst in the league).

We were 7th in ypc allowed in 2015.  Around 10th in 2016,  14th or so in 2017  24th or so last year.  Before today's game, we were 31st.  The pass defense actually is better this year.  But our run d is so bad, it doesn't matter.

What I do remember about 2015 is that we had an unfortunate habit of letting teams get back in the game in the second half.

Again, we don’t have the big boys up front to occupy blocks. That’s what happens when you run a 3-4 with 4-3 DE’s and 230lb OLB.

In some situations, I agree we should take a nuanced view of the rankings and stats.  But in this case, they show a constant and steady decline in our run defense.  I remember that in 2015, we would occassionally allow some big runs as we tended to gamble on occassion.  But when we needed to, we could usually stop just about any running attack.  Now we can't stop any running attack.  

And I do think that letting teams back in games was a bit overblown.  We did it in four games that I can remember.  Green Bay, New Orleans, Seattle, and New York.  The first three were really good qb's, and you can't usually hold a good qb down for long.  New York, well that whole game was an aberration.

2015 was more about Ron's penchant for trading yards/points for time once he has a lead. 

That has never gone away, including this year.

God don't even remind me. Colts, Packers, Saints, Giants, and Seahawks in the playoffs. I'm pretty sure most of these we had a 3+ TD lead too and it almost always came down to the wire in the end.

Does anyone know how our run D look pre KK Short injury vs. post injury? I'm not saying that his being hurt is the reason the run D is horrific, but I wonder if that could be a cause of it.

And it has always been frustrating to watch as a fan. I hated watching teams comeback every week. We just had enough points to eek out wins.
