I certainly agree that some his praise is over the top.  Some people want to crown him the future already.

But the contingency on the other side of the argument also is not helping win any debate.

There are so many intellectually challenged people on both sides of the is topic.

I've seen few things that look as ridiculously dumb as the notion of "oh hey, some people were unfair to Newton when he was a rookie so let's turn around and be the same way to some other guy that has nothing to do with it and that'll be justice".

The more valid choice would have been to be better people. Choosing instead to say equally stupid things doesn't really say much for you.

Allen did will enough to keep them in the game,  but realistically he also contributed in the loss. The problem is people want him to succeed so much, they are over hyping him. Boosting up his proformance then saying crazy things like Cam never done that or can't make them throws. Its beyond childish, and damn right disrespectful. Im rooting for Allen this year because Im a fan of the Panthers, but Im smart enough to know he is not the future like so many are hoping and if the Panthers organization is trying to make him the future they are setting their self up for failure for years. Im a fan of the team and I am losing confidence for the future of the organization because things dont look to good. Hopefully the Coaching staff and the GM is changed for the new front office to steer the organization in the right direction. And I feel our future QB isn't on the team yet.

I want Superman and the Justice League to come in and bring a Can of Whoop Arsss to the rest of our opponents.

I want tshimanga "tim" biakabutuka to actually live up to his contract, same to be said about Kerri Colins.

Stop drinking the Cherry Koolaid and Stop pretending Cam Newton is still a MVP Quarterback.

I DO NOT WANT A PANSI PLAYING FOR THE PANTHERS. I WANT THE CHICAGO BEARS SUPER BOWL DEFENSE, NEW YORK GIANTS SUPERBOWL DEFENSE, AND THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS SUPERBOWL OFFENSE PLAYING FOR OUR TEAM. Hard nose, crippling enforcing, head ache, take me off the field playing both sides of the ball.

MVP don't mean shi…. if you do not win a super bowl.

The team wasn't the browns, we were in rebuilding mode.  And yes it does take time to build a team that is rebuilding. You do not waste draft picks and then through them into a latrine.  That is what we did with several players and Jimmy Clausen 2010.

You should see how this board treated Mike Vick when he played in Atl.  This board hated the type of player Mike Vick had become. A me player,  Cam Newton is all about me!, Me!, ME!....He never was about what is best for the Carolina Panthers and a Super Bowl.  One trip in 9 years.

Wow, I am so amazed that the poor millionaire who can seem to do any thing right to get a super bowl in Carolina. HE sure is the greatest.

Wow.

You need to go to bed or you're going to miss your school bus in the morning..

Allen is the guy right now, and will be for the next 7 games.  As for the future, I'm not worried about that until the end of the year.

We're still in the playoff hunt, even though it will be an uphill endeavor with how good the NFC is this year.  And Allen succeeding or not has nothing to do with Cam.  If you're a fan of the team, you hope the best for Allen this year b/c that means we somehow make the playoffs.

We are going to have uncertainty at QB after the year, no matter who the coach or GM is.  And we're probably not going to be anywhere close to having a high enough pick to get a top QB this draft, even if we lose every game from here out.

In my heart, I want to believe Cam might be our QB next year.  However, there is absolutely no objective evidence that is the case.  In fact, from every source that knows more than us fans, they are pointing the exact opposite direction.

Allen is going to be in the mix next year b/c he has played well enough to deserve consideration, probably with another veteran to compete for the starting job.  Just as you reference people being disrespectful to Cam (and I certainly agree there has been a lot), there are also plenty of people who want to bury Allen b/c he potentially represents a move from Cam even though he has objectively played as well as many other young QB's.

And no, Allen's ceiling will never be as high as Cam's (very few are), but we truly don't know what Cam's ceiling is right now to be honest.  Or what it will ever be back to in the future.

I have been guilty of playing the "if Cam is fully healthy" card a lot of the last few weeks.  I want to believe Cam can get back to his MVP self and play that way for the Panthers.

But both of those things are up in the air, and the playing for the Panthers part of the equation seems to be the most up in the air.

I still don't fully get it, but I have resigned myself that there has to be things that have happened behind the scenes in addition to the injuries.  No one has come out and said anything, but when every beat writer and national "insider" is saying the chances Cam is back with the Panthers is highly unlikely, you have no choice but to accept it.

I feel like a lot of our fanbase is still in the denial or anger part of the grief process.  I have just started to accept it myself.

But bashing Allen (and I'm not saying you are doing it) isn't going to bring Cam back.  Just like bashing Cam isn't going to make Allen be "the guy" if he's not.

We've got to uncouple their respective performances, because in the long term I think they are completely separate b/c they both unfortunately will be playing for different teams.

And as for your thoughts on the future, it's always weird when you have a long-term/franchise QB moving on.  It was weird with Delhomme.  But I will say, this team is in better shape talent-wise for sure than 2009.  There is going to be turnover on defense for sure, but the offensive core (outside of maybe Olsen) will be here next year, and I think the offensive line can be really good if we can Daley and Little healthy and playing together.

We essentially have an UDFA rookie playing QB. We have 5 wins and 2 losses since he took over and those 2 losses were on the road against what will likely end up being the 1 and 2 seed in the playoffs.

he has outplayed every QB drafted in the last 2 years outside of Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray and we used zero resources to get him.

I want Cam to get healthy and return to glory and lead this team, but reality is thats a huge question mark and this kid has more than shown with more experience he can easily take this team to the playoffs if this defense ever decides to pull its head out of its ass

Leading candidate for Post-of-the-Year.

Good onya mate.

Spoken like a truly rational person/fan. Most of what you said will be discarded by many people here.  I think most fans of the team would like to see Cam get healthy and play at a high MVP like level again.  I think he can and if by some chance he comes back as a Panther next year this might be a blessing in disguise.  If Cam moves on to another team I will wish him the best and pull for him when it is not to the detriment of the Panthers.

All that said, KA deserves some accolades for coming in and exceeding expectations.  He is not as good as Cam and will probably never reach that elite level.  He is not a franchise QB but he belongs in the league.  At a minimum as a back up QB.  He may grow into a competent player worthy of a starting QB in the league   He has shown that he can make good decisions and manage an offense and can even make a crucial play during the game.  He has also shown that he is a a work in process and hence, capable of pooing the bed.

All I can do as a fan of the Panthers is sit back and enjoy the game (yes it is a game) and cheer for my team and it’s players.  I will be a fan for all 16 games this season and hopefully a few more after that.

I grade all young QBs "on a curve" in that I recognize they will make mistakes.  I don't expect Allen to play even like a veteran backup.  And yet he has played well enough to come back from mistakes in various games and give the team a shot. This is also why I compare Allen primarily to his peers (other young players playing now).

I would have loved a win tonight, and Allen will be the first person to tell you the turnovers at at least partially cost us the game, but he had some exceptional plays and showed a lot in the 4th quarter.

I don't know if he will be more than a backup next year, but all things considered I think he has a shot at being part of why this team goes down to the wire for a playoff spot.  If you had told me before the season we would start 0 and 2 before putting Cam on IR, but our backup would play well enough we are still in playoff contention this deep in the season I would be pumped... and then ask you what qb we traded for.

Edit: and lets not forget his only two losses are on the road vs the 1 and 2 seeds...
