I Tried To Defend Davidson, But I Can't Anymore

Yall must be missing my point

Im not just talking about that play... but the whole 2nd half in general. I mentioned that play to just show it dont matter who we put in, we're going conservative. Its not all Jake, but Davidson too

that call WASN'T conservative! and like other's have stated, when you're up 21 and built to protect a big lead, you do play conservative! we're not a firepower offense that goes for the jugular.

i don't think we're missing your point, i think you don't have a point to be made. this game was by far the best performance of davidson's season and 95% of the game was called perfectly.

ball control and clock management is how the panthers win games. not by going out and letting a QB who leads the NFL in interceptions or a backup with very little game experience go out and throw passes trying to extend a 21 point lead into the 30's! NOW THAT WOULD BE INSANE PLAY CALLING!!! :hand:

Going into halftime I thought Davidson had somewhat redeemed himself, but seeing how he was completely outdone by the AZ DC in the second half, I'm still thinking he's one of the league's worst.

Jake is an average QB with above average intangibles. Under a better OC he would be great. Davidson could find a way to screw up with Peyton Manning.

At that point they were in field goal range both times. I would have liked to see Moore get a chance to throw as well but we need to get a 3 score lead. This doesn't really affect my opinion on Moore either I still think he should see starting time. It was a smart move to just run the ball. I don't think it showed any indication of their faith or lack their of in Matt Moore to throw the ball.

Whether it's Jake Delhomme or Matt Moore, I don't think the play calling would have been much different in the second half. If Jake isn't injured I'm sure we still see the running plays because it was the dominating factor throughout the game. We did try some stuff that was rather impressive in the first half, when your talking about Davidson, but with a twenty-one point lead coming out of halftime what did you expect?

This.

That's Panther football. Don't fight it. Everyone here hates that Fox and Co. don't ever step on the opponent's throats when we're up by a wide margin and sometimes we find teams getting themselves back into the game. Jeff Davidson called a great game. Let's give him some credit.

The defense played great as well, which makes his job that much easier. The reverse is also true.

I thought the fake smoke was a thing of brilliance. Not just for that one play, but for the future as well. We run the smoke so often, and so obviously, teams have been jumping it all season. Now that they know we have a hitch and go in there, that will give the regular play some more respect. I was very disappointed to see that the powers that be shut it down after the INT at the end of the first half. Over a minute left with the ball on the 40 and they don't even try. They just ran out the clock, and played not to lose in the second half. The only reason they didn't was because of the defense getting more turn overs. Arizona could easily have come back, because the offense did nothing to keep the pressure on. They played a great first half, but owe the defense a big steak for preventing a potentially very embarrassing come back.

So what would you be saying if they came back and won?

Ahh your argument doesn't work then now does it? No it doesn't

Thats why we need a new system in place. Cause like I said our offense has too much talent to go out there and play conservative period whether we winning or losing

And how was this Davidson best performance lmao. He called run plays... OUR PLAYERS executed the runs. Their best performance. I give him the Steve TD, and that probably was on Jake

some of the best offensive performances by Carolina have been w/ some pretty weak playcalling. Tampa last year was awesome.......Tampa knew everything that was coming and made that clear in the press. We were very predictable and repeatitive....that normally doesn't work in your favor against good teams.

the talent in Carolina has overcome some pretty medicore play calling and coaching and recent years. We were asking the Cards to get back in the game today.....the Peppers FF and Martin pick were huge.....b/c Fox had clearly gone into his traditional play not to lose mentality.

we scored 6 points in the 2nd half.....that is weak no matter what kind of lead you have imo.

6 lousy points with the talent we have on offense

You can go head and cuss me out because we got the W and you feel your argument holds more weight

But when we lose you make sure you come right back here and let your homerism go and let reality set in. Dont ignore anything and stay quiet. Cause for one thing, our D is doing their thing right now. But the Saints O is nothing to be played with and is better than the Cards O

If they would have called a pass play, and lets say it was batted in the air and picked, everyone would be killing Davidson for calling it when we were running so well. Hindsight is always 20/20. The Arizona D played better in the second half. Just last week we were complaining why did Jake throw so much? That game played out how it was supposed too. We showed faith that the D would play well enough to keep us in the game. Our team is "supposedly built for 28 point". We score that game over. The D stepped up big time today. The O line blocked well today. Davidson called a good game. Not great, not game breaking, but good. Next week we may have to throw it a few times to extend drives and keep the balls out of the saints hands.

Starting to believe those calls are made by someone other than the Coord. It's become a trend that perpetuates with each coord. I too am a big fan of the screen pass but only when you really need to catch the D on their heelz AND when the chips are down...not up. Again, Davidson is sufficient for our team as well as Meeks. They need a little more control to do their jobs and Meeks needs more time to tailor this D and see what he is working with. For all Meeks knows, he just got a knew safety with which he kind move guys around more and play more aggressive. Davidson is not as bad as predictable ole' Henning.
