Cam's level next year (whether we believe it to be healthy heading in), is not assured for the season.  There is an embedded risk in running through his last year without an extension given his situation.  If he gets injured or seems to be in a post-injury coma, we lose IMMENSE value for an asset.  Right now, the pure risk of seeing if he can return to his old self is propping him up as a movable asset.  This is the unfortunate reality we must face.  Whether you believe in him or not.  He is amazing.  Was amazing here. This is nothing against him.  

Do you take that risk as an organization?  Next year, if he goes down again or isn't quite back, who will want him then at 32? You have to look worst case scenario in projecting for success and we unfortunately need to capitalize this offseason while we can.  That is business.  If we don't make the playoffs, dump the staff, find the new era.  Allen is pending but should we really wager what I think is a 1st and 4th rounder combined for Cam by letting a contract run out? And if it doesn't work out, we have to then try a tag and trade but get possibly less?  Or maybe the value gets so shot we just let him walk?  That is not a scenario Tepper wants to be in as a new owner.  Of course if Cam is back, then are you willing to give a fresh contract to Cam at 32 for 25+ million?  It's a predicament but one we have to be sober in viewing the business of it all.

He is on what all the fans in here need to be on that have there head stuck so far up Newton's ass and could care less about the rest of the team. He is right it's a damn business and you don't know what kind of Cam ur getting. They better take what they can get for him and make this team more consistent down the road.

You're on the right track.

If  Cam checks out healthy in all 3 areas (foot, shoulder, noggin) I have no doubt Tepper will put the $19M at risk in order to see what kind of payoff he can get coming out the other side of next season --- but make no mistake about it, Cam's going to have to prove he can stay healthy for a whole season.

If any one of those areas don't check out health-wise Cam won't be worth anything on the trade market.
