Good post.

Gano's Capture Rate® over the last 2 seasons combined was in excess of 92%....

....Slye's Capture Rate® is just over 76%.

You get what you pay for....

NOTE:  Capture Rate® = points scored/possible points

So does that ignore that Slye is being asked to kick from a lot further range than Gano?

Ignores nothing.

As an aside....for the last week all the talk radio guys have been speaking on how incredibly uncomfortable Riverboat is when asked about Cam...LOL.

To be fair, Gano wasn't asked to kick 50+ yarders nearly as often.

Combine Gano's 2017 and 2018 50 yard attempts and its still less than what than Slye has done through 1/2 of a single season.

Eliminate everything over 50yds and Gano's Capture Rate® (includes FG's and PAT's) the previous 2-years combined goes to 95.4%.

On a like basis Slye is at 82.8%.

Slye could make every single kick inside 50yds from now through the end of the 2020 season and he still won't get his Capture Rate® up to 95.4%.

You get what you pay for...

This thread is a fascinating exploration of human psychology, and what happens when people's emotional narratives are confronted with pretty objective data.  This happens a lot in sports, but field goal kicks can be more objectively measured than other positions.

The arguments keep shifting as more data is presented that conflicts with people's beliefs.

I guess next you guys can try, "Slye is more accurate from precisely 40-44 yards, in the 3rd quater".

Did you see fans blubbering about human psychology when the Patriots moved on from Adam Vinatieri? He was actually clutch at one time.

Either you like winning or you like the Jerry Richardson family loyal to a fault way of doing things. Not even someone like our injured franchise QB has anything guaranteed.

Slye is a rookie kicker who can be replaced like anyone else. Let him finish the season and then we'll see where things go for 2020.

But you said all it does is look at points scored / possible points.  Sounds like it ignores that Slye is regularly being asked to kick from longer distances than Gano.

Talk radio guys are known to be basically full of poo, and only say click-baity things.  Its why I don't listen to most of them.  Because most don't know what they are talking about and just want reactions.

1 50+ miss was a weird rare free kick. Surprised it counted as a miss because idk weird rule (TB game).

1 kick blocked then another impacted (Jville game killed him, 2 FGs 1pa). Campbell owned us that game plus Dwill60 sucked majorily.

Take out the weird and 1 horrible game, you get a 85% FG which is not bad at all.

But if you are going to rag him, be honest in your context first.

Bump because people ignore context of stats. Taking stats at face value does nothing but generate hot takes without meaningful analysis.

Take TB, a free kick, and Jville, where our FG line that could not block, out then you have an 85% FG kicker. He would be around 15th best kicker.

The kid has done a fantastic job.

Take the 50+ yarders out and the output is the same.....Gano produced better results.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion.  That said, clearly you have never seen video of a Riverboat Ron press conference.

In your opinion how many years will Slye be the Panthers starting kicker?  Is he the guy for the next decade?  Will he be the kicker next year?  Something in between?

I'd say next season would be a year to see progression and look for better consistency.  If we don't ditch Gano and he looks better in camp, sure play Graham but I haven't seen anything yet that is making me go, okay, get Slye out of there.  He's had two <50 yarder misses that were tough to stomach but I don't think that warrants the pitchforks yet.

For context, Gano was going into year 4 at 74% kicking in his career when we signed him.

(i)  Gano is done.  He won't play in the NFL again.  His plant knee is shot.

(ii)  Gano's "year 4" is in no way relevant to evaluating Slye.
