True. He was clutch for us for many years, but his injuries and lack of accuracy past 50 recently have really hurt us

League wide he’s still above average. I think we’ve honestly been spoiled as a franchise with the K position.

I actually like Gano but I think Butker and Slye were/are better options due to cost. Sure Gano may be slightly better but not worth $4M more. Either way I think Gano is done, pretty serious injuries...

I guess it's a matter of philosophy. That's such a small amount in the grand scheme of things. Gano was arguably the best kicker for a year or two, and I don't mind paying for security at the kicking position because its importance is paramount. Sure, a cheap, accurate option is the best option, but it's obviously kind of hard to find.

I still miss Kasay to be honest.

Slye may just make a liar out of me. Gano might not be gone!

Not gonna lie, I'm very disappointed in Slye.

Gano is done, his plant knee is shot.  He won't kick in the NFL again.

Slye's Capture Rate® is 76.5%.....by comparison, Gano was over 92% over the previous 2 seasons combined.

In the old Econ 101 parlance, Slye is an inferior substitute.....ground beef has been substituted for steak.

Gano had one great statistical year (2017) but we didn’t ask him to do much, pretty much all of those were chip shots. Other than that he’s been very very inconsistent with horrible 2016 and 2018 seasons. We’re not talking about Vinatieri or Justin Tucker here. I’d agree with you about paying a kicker if they are actually consistently great, but Gano was not. He was slightly above average and declining. That $4M may not seem like much but it could have an impact. That’s what TB paid Shaq Barrett this year (leading the league in sacks)...

Gano was 68% in his first full season.

Butker was 91% :crying:

In Butker's first 2 seasons his capture rate was 91%....Gano was 92% in the same time-frame.

Folks need to stop obsessing on Butker, he does not play for our team.

Neither is great but Slye makes a couple hundred grand a year and Gano makes over $4 million. I’ll cut the cheap rookie a little more slack

If he is 26th best kicker is he paid as the 26th best. That is the question. Gano was paid as a top tier kicker and an argument could be made that we had a better one on a rookie deal (butker). Don’t compare Butker to gano straight up. Compare their production and salary combined. If you ask me, that is a toss up and you may want to side with th cheaper deal with some upside.

Faulty logic.

Do you apply the same paradigm to Kyle & Cam?

If not, why not?

Yes, I expect a veteran that is paid a top tier salary to perform like a top tier player.  If you can get the same production out of a player that is on a rookie deal, I'm not sure why you'd keep paying the veteran that is clearly under performing his contract.

This is pretty basic stuff.
