If Cam Newton is not on the roster in 2020, would you still be a Panthers fan?

It is no secret the Panthers fan base has seen a large number of new fans over the last decade that are strictly fans of the team because of Cam Newton. With Cam Newton going on IR, and the possibility of his time with the Panthers coming to an end, this fact has been brought into the spotlight.

So be honest. Straight up, if Cam Newton is not on the Panthers roster in 2020, would you still a Panthers fan?

Yes I would. I'm a fan of the team first and foremost. Sure im a fan of the players, but if they left I would still cheer for the team and for those players as long as they weren't on a division opponent and weren't playing us. Panthers football helped me deal with the loss of my oldest brother in 2015 so I'll be a fan til the day I die regardless of who is quarterback or if we are 16-0 or 0-16

Just now, hepcat said:

Haven't noticed how much emptier the stadium looks this season, huh? Ah to be young and naive again.

Just because you are a fan doesn't mean you are willing to throw cash at the organization for something you can enjoy for free at home. You can buy a 6 pack for the cost of a beer for example.

I'm a Panther fan and will be one regardless of who is playing for them or not. Having said that, I don't think there' anything inherently wrong with anyone being a fan of a particular player instead of a team, that's just personal preference. I find it weird that many fans consider it acceptable to be blindly loyal to a particular team, but not like a particular player regardless of his team. I happen to be one but see nothing wrong with being the other.

    • Hey guys, remember when we won those meaningless games in 2010 and it cost us the #1 pick and the chance to draft Cam? Oh.... right I get that's more of an extreme example because it got us a HOF caliber QB.  But it's the general concept, you want to win late season games when you have the pieces in place to make a run the next season, we currently are not in that place. Herbert and Sewell are the ones I point to so much, because we literally lost out on 2 franchise different makers by 1 draft slot.  Give us those two players while we still have CMC, Moore, and the rest of the picks we gave up for Bryce, and we'd have been a legit playoff contender the last few years. Draft position matters in the NFL more than any other sport (other than the #1 pick in the NBA in a year with a generational talent).
    • It’s so crazy. If we had a shot for pick 1 and there was some generational player there then yeah maybe I could get behind the draft position argument. I’d say most GMs and coaches aren’t diving into the draft right now. They are trying to win games.
