Cam Newton will be our starter next year. Here's what's going to happen...

After having played just 2 games in 21 months by the time the 2020 season starts, Cam will be rested and healthy. His whole body will have recovered to an extent it hasn't been in a LONG time because of all the hits he didn't absorb this year. He'll do his usual thing of playing poorly to start the season (especially since I can promise you he won't play next year's preseason) and will go on to have the best season he's had since 2015 by far.

Don't let the pessimists get you down today. This move is best for Cam and the future of the Carolina Panthers.

Anything's possible, but this is not a scenario I would bet money on.

Why?

I truly don't get why people are jumping off cliffs today. His shoulder will be 100% next year. We have no indication that his foot won't be 100% either. So...what's the problem here? Cam will just be 31 next year, that's middle-age for quarterbacks. A healthy Cam Newton in 2020 will obviously be our best option at QB, much better than any QB we could have at the 16th pick or whatever.

Smarter to keep a recovered cam than let another team reap the benefits.

the benefits in keeping cam outweigh the Benefits in releasing or trading him.

kyle Allen still has to ball out the remainder of this year, and have some playoff success for the scale to tip heavily in cam not being here next year.

There's money involved now.  Ignore the talk about the cap savings and think about the security aspect both the team and Cam will be looking for.

I sure hope so. But it's not like he was off vacationing in Hawaii for 21 months. He's been rehabbing injuries to his throwing shoulder (for the second time) and his foot. Cam is a mobile quarterback with messy throwing mechanics which puts a lot of strain on his shoulder. A full recovery doesn't seem likely tbh.

It sucks, but it's true.

His shoulder was supposed to be 100% this year.

Beyond that, of the people with access to the team, there's a lot more pessimism than optimism on that front.

If Cam is healthy next year, I expect he'll play fantastic. And that will lead to a gigantic payday, no?

IF we were looking at the #1 pick, I might understand this speculation. But we're 5-3 and won't sniff Tua, so I don't see any situation where we end up with a better QB in 2020 than Cam.

His shoulder is no longer the issue though right? It's his foot. Do we think that because Cam's last big injury took a lot longer to heal than they thought that this one will too?
