Likely won't see Cam in a Panthers uni again

No matter who the next coach is he's not cutting or trading a productive last year first round pick.

Mainly because 1st round rookie contracts are guaranteed. Ain’t no coach/GM gonna flush a talented YOUNG player with a huge buy-out, no matter the “fit”.

just read a thought about where Cam goes...everyone saying Chicago.  If Brady retires.....and .....

I know a lot of people say Chicago for obvious reasons, but they run an Andy Reid style West Coast Offense. I'm not sure I see that playing to his strengths.

New England? Maybe. Maybe even Miami. They both run an Erhardt-Perkins which is closer in practice to the Coryell that we run.

And yeah, seeing Newton play for Belichick would suck.

I'm in the "I'll believe it when I see it" boat but Cam going on injured reserve does raise the odds that - via trade, release or retirement - this is the end of an era.

Whatever happens, I can't help but think all the way back during the 2015 campaign. I wish I had saved a post I made during that magical run because I raised serious concerns that what he was doing up to that point simply wasn't sustainable career-wise. There was going to be a price to pay in the future and we had better win the Super Bowl that year. I get the impression we're paying that price now and it's a question of whether it's worth risking keeping Cam in the hopes of some type of bounceback.

Emotions aside, I am finding it harder to justify keeping Cam because:

1. The cap savings that can be used to keep other core players around

2. Potential draft capital via a trade, something we've botched in the past with prior players

3. Allen is showing that he's at least a workable intermin solution

4. It removes the distraction of constant questions about our QB's health

5. Tepper will find it easier to fire both Rivera and Hurney at the end of this year or the next since both are linked to the Cam era

Belichick will retire when Brady does. There is nowhere to go but down after Brady is done.

A couple of years ago, I might have agreed with this. These days, I'm not so sure.

General belief from a lot of folks is that if Belichick does retire, he'll hand the reins over to Josh McDaniels.
