its crazy that y'all think cam is going into a lame duck contract year in prove it mode.   that's insulting.  its what i think we should do but he probably wants out if they're not offering him a new deal before the year.   why would he want to stay here?

Yea, no.  If Cam wants a long term deal with any team he will have to play his contract out.

Cam isn't going to get a monster deal anywhere... He needs to be some place he can demonstrate he can still perform over the course of an entire season.  The only reason he would want to leave if he has no chance to start here IMO.

someone will give him a large incentive laden contract with good guaranteed money for 2 years of it and an escape hatch

.  I'm just hoping his calculated risk here will be to give Cam his job back next season when he's healthy rather than giving Kyle the job and letting Cam walk.

He was a hedge fund manager.  The very definition of the job is one who takes calculated high risks--he does not play it safe in life---not in his blood.  Good point.  So, what is the highest risk with the greatest potential for reward?  Keeping Cam, now an oft-injured 30-year old QB whose money was made on his combination of freakish athleticism, size,  arm strength (shoulder) and foot speed?  If age and injuries are showing signs that he is hitting the wall, do you pull your funds and put them on a cheaper, nearly as effective 23-year old?  Isn't that the hedge fund manager's play here?

I dunno.  Just spit balling.  But riding a whipped horse is not the way those hedge fund guys make money.  They jump on when you are a hot prospect and jump off before you start declining.

You could argue that he could market Kyle Allen when his stock is soaring-maybe get a first or second rounder for him--and bring Cam back for a year or two while you draft a QB--this draft should be a good one.   To me, that is the safe play, and if Allen develops into a franchise QB, your investors fire you.

So I think the play is to bring Cam back, demonstrate his worth in preseason, and then seek a trade.  That is the hedge funder mentality, to me.

By the way, the empty seats were probably due to SF and losing more than Cam's absence.  Winning fills the seats---again, you could be right, but I root for the logo, not the man behind it.

This is what happens to about 80% of all good to great QBs. Injuries eventually get you and you can't move back to your glory days. It's what took out Peyton Manning (neck).

Maybe the rest can get Cam back to full strength or at least to a functioning level, but it's not just his foot but still his shoulder that is under a lot of scrutiny. It's going to take a lot of hope and prayers to get him there. It's not out of the question at all, but reality says it's over for him this season at least.

And that's what we have to go with. Luckily, we had Kyle Allen sitting on the roster and while he's young and has a lot of young player problems, and we've won 5 of 6 with him under center. No reason to give up on the season yet.

First and foremost, Cam is under contract.  Which means the team controls him for as long as 3 years if they so choose, and certainly 1 year as Cam inked his name to that deal.

If Cam isn't willing to go into the final year of his contract, he should have signed a shorter deal.

There is less than 0% chance I would support doing a thing to Cams contract at this time.

that's great but you're asking a franchise qb to come play on a prove it deal.   you're not taking into account how that's going over with nfl players at this time.   maybe he'll pull a flacco and bet on himself, maybe he'll ask for a trade.  if he asks i'm under the assumption it will be granted because of what he's done while he was here.   if i were him i'd want the hell out of here.  no decent line.   going back into this year with it a shiteshow for one.   not sure why you think he would want to stay - and i don't think we have 'control' of him for 3 years.   he's gonna get to do what he wants in regards to coming in on a lame duck deal.  watch.

You mean in 2021, when he isn't under contract, or...?  Do you expect him to hold out or something?  How is he going to get a contract with another team while under contract with the Panthers?

its ridiculous that some of y'all want your generational talent, hall of famer, brett favre like qb to come in and play on a prove it deal.    do you get how you can't say he's a hall of famer generational talent and in the same breath expect him to play on a prove it deal?
