It has an effect.

I mean, technically you could say that playing in a higher elevation like they do in Denver shouldn't affect elite athletes either, but it does.

I totally understand that it has AN effect, but to say it's a major obstacle to overcome?

Not sure I buy that theory.

Jet lag messes up your sleep patterns. You arrive in London at dawn and your body thinks its time to go to sleep. There are ways to combat this but you need a few days to a week to adjust. Playing at 6:00 will not be a huge deal if yoiu have been there a few days.

Flying itself can be exhausting.

Totally understand, and while I don't fly quite as much as I did in the past, it's still not that major of a thing to overcome, in my opinion.

They wouldn't be flying steerage like the rest of us schlubs.  Only reason I'm saying this is because I literally just came back from London, and while I had to do some things to get me acclimated, it wasn't life altering by any means.

You're wrong and you're stupid and a poo poo head! Let's meet in real life and fight!

Let's wait a couple of weeks to do that though cause I've got a sore shoulder and I'm kinda tired.

My schedule's a little complicated right now too. Are you free on Wednesdays?

Can we just maybe sit down together, have a beer, and watch whatever crap the NFL decides to show on Thursday night instead?  I'm not sure that I can gather up the energy to be angry about yet another bad idea the NFL is having today.

As much as I hate the idea, make no mistake London will have a team in the next couple of years.  NFL is all about $ and they clearly want to expand the brand overseas.  It wouldn't surprise me if they added two new expansion teams and put one in London and the other in Canada.

I think this would be cool as hell quite frankly. Really like the early morning Sunday games.

Yeah but see, this way I get to cut a pro wrestling style promo about how I'm going to kick your ass in The Coliseum on the 16th.

And come on, haven't you always wanted to do that? :)

I guess to put this another way, how on Earth does Hawaii do it when they play?  Or how did the players ever gather the energy to go to the Pro Bowl?  How about Miami playing in Seattle or the other way around?

Please make no mistake, I'm not advocating for a London team, nor do I think it would be a good idea, but the travel, IMO isn't nearly the biggest obstacle to overcome.

The margin between success and failure in the NFL is already very small. There's an observable statistically significant disadvantage for west coast teams traveling east for early games.

Worth remembering they don't hold the Pro Bowl in Hawaii anymore.

The travel is a big issue, but I don't think it's necessarily the biggest issue. It's a lot to ask players to pick up and move across the ocean to a whole other country. That'd be a disadvantage for the team as it's trying to get free agents.

And let's remember, players get cut midseason on a pretty regular basis. Imagine you've taken the time to move you and maybe your family all the way over to London, and now you're cut.

And what about tryouts? Driving or flying to Charlotte or Green Bay for a tryout is no big deal? Having to go to London? Whole other story.

I think the people in favor of this really haven't thought through the real world logistics.

But like I said, owners don't live in the real world.

The pro bowl is a vacation and not a real game.  It wouldn't have as much affect for say Charlotte to go to London as it would for Seattle

Maybe, just maybe, the coaches need to figure out a way for these guys to be more adaptable?

The teams try to make these young men robots.  Again, I'm not saying it's not an issue, but it's not as big of an issue as most are making it out to be.
