The London Chargers?

As much as I hate the idea, make no mistake London will have a team in the next couple of years.  NFL is all about $ and they clearly want to expand the brand overseas.  It wouldn't surprise me if they added two new expansion teams and put one in London and the other in Canada.

My bet is four new teams over the next decade, followed with four more after that to even up the divisions. Before you freak out about shrinking slices of the pie, the revenue shares will each grow massively, especially if you can bring in television revenues from Europe and Canada, possibly even Mexico. New teams in the US can also push new stadium constructions and there's some massive leveraging opportunities there.

It is also a big, big gift to the NFLPA because they can grow the roster of active players and present opportunities to players on the fringes of their career either because of age and/or ability.

What about every time the London team plays away?  They can't get a bye everytime

Right, they would have to get used to the travel (unlikely), have the schedule setup such that they have groups of away games near each other that they stay here for, or be at a competitive disadvantage. Exactly why the logistics make no sense. Until we have passenger planes that are cost efficient and can fly to London in like 2 hours it really makes no sense (and that likely won’t happen any time soon).

Wouldn't that mean they have to change their name to the International Football League?

Anyway, it's a stupid idea. Europeans like to beef with other Europeans. London fans would want to root against a French team. A German team. And Italian team. A SCOTTISH team! People in London won't get excited about playing Tennessee.

Europe isn't ready for American football anyway. There's no demand. The rules are too complicated to try to attract a wide adult audience.

You want to get European interest up? Here's my foolproof plan:

Do more morning games. Right now, regular NFL games are being played between 6pm and midnight in London. The SNF, MNF & TNF games are being played at 1am til 4am. No one is watching them. And those are the marquee matches of the week! If you want to create a European audience, make some 10am ET games here in the states so a European audience can watch during prime time.

This is a win-win for everyone!

A European audience can tune in, and start forming the next generation of fans who will DEMAND and NFL Europe.

Networks should love it, because it creates another 3-hour football block to cram their ads into. And if there's only one 10am game each week, it gets 100% of the viewing audience at that time. It's another marquee matchup!

And frankly I wouldn't mind a couple games each week being played at 10am because when the Panthers get the game that week, I'm done watching football by 1pm and my whole Sunday afternoon is free! (One of my favorite things about being in Vegas, actually)

Create demand, then try to expand. A push strategy won't work in Europe.

Elon Musk is working on it

In all honesty, I just don't really understand jet lag/time change stuff, and I'm not 100% sure I buy into it.

What's the major difference between playing over there at 6PM, or here on Sunday night vs. 1:00 PM games?

Maybe the lag just doesn't affect me as much as others, but we are talking about world class athletes here, not grannys.

It has an effect.

I mean, technically you could say that playing in a higher elevation like they do in Denver shouldn't affect elite athletes either, but it does.

Morning games are the worst...well almost as bad as Thursday games. It's  just not great football.

On the bright side, if this ended any possibility of losing a home game ever then it's not all bad. I pity the fools that have to travel 8 times a year back and forth, not to mention personal trips, and then pay those taxes too.

It’s still their wet dream to have the league in Europe again. Next we will be talking NFL Europe again.

its just a logistic nightmare to have games in London all the time. That’s a lot of long flights— the West Coast teams flying over and the London team going road would be intense.

I think if they commit to it, it'll take about one season for them to realize why it's just not going to work, if that.

But they're going to want it to work, so rather than do the smart thing and give up on it they'll ignore the obvious and keep trying to force it to happen.

(it's kind of like how movie studios kept trying to make films starring Taylor Kitsch)

Jet lag messes up your sleep patterns. You arrive in London at dawn and your body thinks its time to go to sleep. There are ways to combat this but you need a few days to a week to adjust. Playing at 6:00 will not be a huge deal if yoiu have been there a few days.

Flying itself can be exhausting.
