He fixed the fumbling issue. I'm inclined to view hitting the long ball in the NFL is a bit more a challenge than not fumbling in the pocket, but at least his improvement provides some basis for hope his long ball can improve with time. I'm just glad that A) the coaching staff is willing to let him throw deep when it's not his strength and B) he was able to do so against the Titans without giving up any INT's on them. 2/7 ain't great, but just throwing it deep even if you don't connect has some value because it at least forces the db's to run with your receivers instead of just homing on CMC. Let's hope that percentage goes up as he gains reps and builds chemistry with his WR's.

100%

Good post

A lot of those stats came before the league decided to let receivers, and offenses run wild. This isn't really comparable. Besides, extrapolating statistics from this few games isn't going to prove anything. If you're going to do it you could at least compare him to the current league, and current NFL quarterbacks, where he ranks, or to rookies currently.

Although Kyle Allen just doesn't pass the eye test. He doesn't have the arm, the accuracy, or the pocket presence. He doesn't change blocking assignments, make calls, make any audibles at all, and obviously isn't trusted to run anything, but the most basic offense. He's almost a net negative in the run game as well — very little playmaking ability.

If Kyle Allen did something impressive, even something as basic as leading a comeback maybe I would change my mind. Though right now he seems to be the most vanilla backup quarterback imaginable being carried by Christian McCaffrey, and a defense that's getting sacks and takeaways.

Name the young QB (with under 8 games to his name) making tons of audible calls, with great pocket presence, hitting all the throws, with full trust of a coaching staff?

The Kyle Allen Bar is being set that if he isn’t on par with a veteran GOAT out of the gate and then he garbage that has clearly peaked.  Makes no sense.

The teams he has managed have gone 6-1.  That is impressive.

I think you need to watch the league more. Rookie quarterbacks all around the league, and backups, are at the very least changing and calling out blocking assignments. Many of them audible. This isn't up for debate.

Okay.  Name the young QB.  Maybe I need to watch more.

Maybe you need to go back and watch Brady, Manning Bros, and a host of other QBs 8 starts into their NFL careers too.   Lot of game management can be found.  Lot of bad play found.  And not a lot of the bar being meet you have set for Allen.

Hell, Cam is a goat.  Ryan Kalil literally made all the pass protection calls at the line for him his entire career.  He certainly didn’t check all your boxes early in his career either.

The argument isn't that Allen is bad.

Its that a healthy Cam is better.

People don't poo on Allen because they think he is horrible, they don't think he can win.  They poo on Allen because idiots make stupid threads constantly acting like Allen is a future HoFer and that even if Cam comes back and is 100% healthy he should be benched.

Because Allens 220 yards passing per game and 2 turnovers a game are just that amazing.

It drives people to be more critical of Allen and come across as not liking him..when in reality all they are doing is saying a healthy Cam is better.

Creating a thread and trying to put Allen in the same group as Brees, Brady, Rodgers is stupid.

First, I admit I'm writing this response after reading all those that preceded yours, but before I read further -- so there may be similar comments from others I haven't yet read.

I don't know the OP, and haven't had conversations with the OP, but...I think your reaction, and of many other posters, is missing his point.  I didn't read the original post as making a comparison in future HOF status to any/all of those other QBs -- and that's just what you're assuming and implying.

To me, he was making first year statistical comparisons to make an entirely different point -- that Huddle critics of Allen (citing this or the other as signs of ineptitude or failing) should cut him some slack -- as it's his first year, and all of those great QBs didn't start off much better than he has.

And I also don't believe he was assuming any preference of Allen over Cam, who wasn't even mentioned.  But rather that so many threads here seem to assume Cam's through/traded/whatever -- that he might not be back, and that therefore Allen might have to step in permanently.

OP, I thought your post was thought-provoking, certainly not incendiary, and a good summary of statistical facts.  You weren't jumping to any conclusions, and neither should we.

    • Thielen, Chark, Hurst, Miles, and then Dionte as the answers to a pitiful group of offensive skill players horrifically backfired.  I want to see that 4.3 speed Thomkins playing over David Moore
    • And btw, you have to remember that T-Mac is doing all this with pretty poor QB play this year, on a team that's a mess with no other quality offensive weapons to take attention away from him.   Yet he's still 3rd in the nation in receiving yards with defenses knowing he's our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd option on every passing play.  He still gets open at all 3 levels and when he can't get open because of the double and triple coverage, he consistently makes crazy contested catches that those 6' WRs that are a little more explosive and fast, just can't make. If he was on one of those elite college teams, with a great QB and multiple elite WR and RB options to take attention and give T-Mac single coverage on every play, he'd be putting up bonkers video game like numbers. He's the straight up full package, if we don't end up with him, 5 years from now everyone here is going to look back and say, "yep, he was right about this guy"
    • btw, mingo supposed to play tonight.  we want Cowboys to lose for more than one reason, but they are imploding and their 4th round pick is ours. Rams started rough this year, we have their second rounder, and for a while it a in the top 10 picks.  they are going the opposite direction of the Cowboys.  I do think they have Kansas City after us, so that will help
