Baker Mayfield or Kyle Allen

One had 7 professional games and only limited college play.  The other played a lot in college and has 1.5 years in the pros.  They are really at different levels of experience right now, so I am not sure one can make a choice.  But Mayfield certainly doesn't look like the savior Cleveland thought he would be.  

 

I would prefer to choose neither one of them.

Being good at football at a high level isn't just about talent.   The NFL for those that have the ability to make it this far? Largely becomes more about what is between the ears and decisions. 

Baker Mayfield most likely would be having problems wherever he was....because he is Baker Mayfield.   Lot of the super gifted players flop...because all they are is just natural athletic ability. 

Ryan Leaf and Jeff George were two of the most talented quarterbacks the league had seen.

George played on what, four teams?  People kept giving him chances because they theorize that he was so talented oh, surely he could make a difference somewhere.

Baker Mayfield isn't going to play the Kyle Allen game even if told too.  He isn't wired like that. 

 

Baker took the worst franchise ever over a 2 year period and turned them into a 7 win team while breaking the rookie TD passing record in 14 games. Is he having a terrible second season? No doubt about it, but he showed me enough his first that I’m willing to let this year slide based on his potential showed.

 

 

The  people picking Allen are the same ones who would have chose Dalton over Cam his sophomore year, who also struggled.

Any time people use wins as a measuring stick never forget Dalton won 52 games over his first 5 seasons. But people who understand football knew what type of QB Dalton is, same goes for Allen.

well, picked Allen....and I am not someone that has ever picked someone over Cam.

I mean, if I have a solid team I would take Alex Smith over more talented dudes too.   Team sport.  All about how you can get the best results.   It just isn't always about having the more talented QB.  About having the QB who can get you the most wins. 

Cam over Dalton was a no-brainer.  Because the talent gap was MASSIVE.  Cam Newton is  a in a generation talent.  Baker is Manziel Vol 2.

I was bored, and I decided to look up the first qb taken in the draft each year for the last 10 years.  Its not an impressive list, and we may have gotten the best of the bunch with Cam Newton.  Only two super bowl appearanced combined, and 1 MVP.

Stafford is decent, Newton had several great years and hopefully has a few more for us.  Luck could have been good without the injuries.  Goff looks solid and has a SB appearance.  The jury is still out on Mayfield and Murray.   The rest are meh.  

Eli Manning was drafted first overall in 2004 and won a couple of superbowls.  No highest drafted QB since Eli has won a Superbowl.

Like I said depends on the team I got.  You running the Chiefs? Alex Smith all day.  Baker Mayfield is going to get in the teams way of winning.  Winning is more important than bragging about who has the more talented QB
