The Kyle Bashing Needs To Stop

I kinda doubt there as many people in that camp as you think.

The vast majority of the fanbase doesn't care who's playing as long as we win.

If you translate that to mean the people want to get rid of Newton, or translate any praise of Allen or questions about Newton to mean the same, you're creating enemies that aren't there.

I think most of the fanbase wants whoever gives the team the best chance to win and believe thats Cam if he can get healthy.

The issue is that there’s a large, vocal section of fans who are so over Cam Newton that they’re delusional about Allen’s ability and in denial of Cam’s.

Vocal? Perhaps.

Large? Doubt it.

It's worth remembering that some of the people saying this stuff for deliberately trolling, and doing a successful job of it from the look of things.

And if we're being honest, that phrase "if he can get healthy" is becoming a bigger and bigger question mark as time goes on.

That's why I said elsewhere, whether you think Allen is good or not, unless you're ready to go full on tank you'd better hope he is.

And again, tanking is bullsh-t.

I wish we could both stop bashing Allen and stop pretending our backup QB is some kind of longterm answer. Could he become a franchise QB, possible but not probable. If Cam is done the only question is how we find his replacement because as of now, the answer is probably not on the roster and that isn't good enough come this offseason. Going into next year with no Cam and just Allen and Grier should make people uneasy, especially if they buy tickets to watch us beat bad teams and get rolled by contenders.

you might wanna let this one go

I'm yankin' his chain.

As far as Allen actually goes though, I spent weeks going back and forth with Ellis about if we'd seen enough to know whether he was really good or not. During that time, I was one of the people complaining that we didn't get a veteran back up in the offseason.

Turns out Allen can actually play, and as has been pointed out, he's done a better job than a lot of other backups.

I go back again to the three questions that I ask about every player...

1) Are they good? (i.e. enough to play in the NFL, and the answer is yes)

2) How good? (still don't know; at the very least, a high-end backup; still the potential to be even better with more practice and experience; we'll see)

3) How long are they going to stay good? (can't answer that question until you've answered the second one)

As I've said elsewhere, the main problem with Allen is that everybody wants to make a pronouncement of everything he could possibly be based on what they see right now, and I don't think there's enough information to say that yet. Which is why everybody can getting pissed off because somebody else doesn't share their opinion is kinda silly.

The one thing I do know? Multiple reporters have quoted sources from within the team stating that they're paying attention.

I'm not about to predict how it's going to come out, but unlike a lot of folks, I'm not trying to.

One thing I would add: Letting other posters affect your opinion of a player is kinda silly.

"I have to bash this guy because other people are propping him up too much or because other people bashed my favorite player too much!"

No you don't.

I don't take opinion polls to see whether posters I agree with like or dislike a certain player before I form an opinion of them. I do it on my own.

If I let other people affect my objective opinion about a particular player, that's a failure on my part.

Ditto to anybody else who does that as well.

There are a lot of unknowns about Kyle Allen. I don’t think he is nearly as bad as many are making him out to be. You have to factor in the totality of circumstances by which he was inserted into the lineup. You have to factor in situational football. The one thing about the fumbles: he came right back every time and put together drives. The game last week was terrible, but they had no shot. He’s a young, relatively inexperienced quarterback. You can’t allow him to play from that far behind. It’s just not a formula for success. Of course Cam is better. That’s not up for dispute.

Again, I’ll ask you guys: what credible source ever said Cam needed to be benched or traded in favor of Kyle? Some guy on Twitter with a truck as his avatar doesn’t count.

The emphasis is on credible.

oh yeah definitely the same dynamic at play here lmao

How is it any different. After one loss Allen is a good back up but that's it. Totally ignoring that his line got slapped around like bitches and his defense was probably worse than the oline.

Ah yes, complaining about Kyle bashing when we had to listen to cam bashing from the fanbase and the media for 4 weeks straight.

Just couldn't enjoy the team winning alone, funny how things work out when the script is flipped.

Try the last 9 seasons. This thread is laughable.
