It's possible Cam's last game for us will end up being the Tampa Bay game where he looked awful and was booed off the field

Reality check:

Cam is thirty years old. Has had two shoulder surgeries to his throwing arm since 2015. Took him quite a while to properly heal (if it has fully healed, who knows.)

Now an injured foot that isn't healing properly.

His game has been based on his ability to run and cause major problems for a defense. He could throw laser beams down the field, but has accuracy problems due to his mechanics (according to the "experts".)

If you take half his game away and he can't or won't run like he used to, then that's a huge handicap. We would all like it to be 2015 again for him.....how realistic is that at this point in his career?

You like any QB on the roster or in the draft better than Cam? And don’t say Tua cuz he won’t be there. Keep in mind the same injury basically cost Greg Olsen a season and many here wanted him replaced too, didn’t happen for good reasons.

Yes Cam is an unknown going forward but so is anyone else. The team isn’t committed to Cam long term contract wise. No reason to not let him play out his contract and see where he’s at. This season is the sacrifice for a healthy Cam. You let him go then it’s for nothing.

If Rivera is retained sure. If not we are rebuilding and Cam isn't going to stick around that long. He can go to a team that needs a QB and has a line to protect him. I hate saying that but it's the reality of the situation. We have two young QBs developing behind him as well and they have more time and lower contract numbers. A good offensive Mind could build around that in a few years. Cam will always be one of my favorite players but I don't want to see him go down in flames behind a horrible line.

Back in 2010 I moved back to NC and have gone to a few home games a year since. This game was not like any other. Something was off, though at the time I thought maybe it was the rain delay or the pressure of bomb another national game in the spotlight. It was Cam.

As said earlier, I missed Jake’s last season here at home, though I can’t imagine it was much different. I think ownership recognizes when the home crowd turns on their quarterback. That night was indeed the turning point imo. Anyone that was there could feel it.

I was there and it wasn’t good.  Fans around us all said exactly what we

were thinking, Cam is done.  Is he really? Maybe not, but plenty feel he is.

So as you read
Know my friends
I'd love to stay with you all

Please smile,
Smile when you think about me
My body's gone
That's all

Je vous aime
Je dois partir

What a pleasant surprise to find some Megadeth lyrics buried in this thread.  Well done!

If you booed someone who any person with two brain cells to rub together could clearly see was injured then you’re an f’ing jack wagon. Cam is the best thing to ever happen to Charlotte and simply because you don’t like how he acts or how he dresses you want him gone. Every last one of you should F yourself

Just because Rivera gets fired doesn't mean we rebuild. Plenty of teams hire new coaches because they think they have the talent in place, just need a new hand on the steering wheel.  That is what I think will happen with us.

Out of all the games I’ve been to, the 2008/2009 playoff home game vs the Cardinals/Jake meltdown stands out the most.

Man the city was glowing that night HUGE fan show out the team was primed and at first loud as hell. I couldn’t imagine losing that game with one of the best olines in football and two 1k backs. The stadium looked and felt magical that night. In fact if you look at ‘panoramic Bank of America stadium’ a photo of the stadium from that night is still used today for wall art.

Then it happened. The team was doing well but Jake was just off, something wasn’t right. And Fox absolutely refused to adjust and actually cover/double Fitz and he ate us alive. I have never to this day of hundreds of games in many different cities and teams see such a bi polar reaction from entering that stadium and then leaving. My god it was awful.

And then...in good old Hurney/Panther fashion Delhomme was given his 45 million contract shortly after that lol

that was the moment I really started questioning this organizations competence going forward and the moment I realized JR couldn’t give two shits about winning

Cams situation is bad but I don’t think it compares unless Hurney gives him an extension after the season. And even then not quite as bad.

I would say our window has closed or is close to closing.

Unless Cam decides to retire, he will be here next season.  Almost no chance we cut him, new coach or not.  They will give him a year to see what he can do, and at the end of 2020, will make a decision on whether to try and resign him or let other teams grab him.

I hope you're right, DD.  I hope you're right.  After all he's done for the city, state, and franchise...  it's the least he deserves.

The NFL changes so much from year to year, that the whole window thing is mostly a myth.  We could add two or three players on defense, bring in a coach with a more aggressive defensive philosphy, and become a dominant defense next year.  Cam could come back and play like he did in the first half of last season.  Or we could bring in a new coach and still suck.  Or we could go on a tear this season and who knows where we might end up.  Fwiw, at the beginning of the season, I thought we would struggle the first half of the season (maybe be 5-5 or 6-4 at the 10 game mark), but get better/turn a corner as the season went along.  So far, I am right.
