It's possible Cam's last game for us will end up being the Tampa Bay game where he looked awful and was booed off the field

Eh it's the Not For Long league for a reason.  Jerry Richardson isn't in charge anymore; we're not running a family business.

A lot of users here had their head in the sand once he got injured AGAIN, in a pre-season game.  But I think the shot-fighter reality cannot be denied any longer even by the little man gang.

You can win in this league with game manager level QB play and a stout defense.  That's how three out of the last five SBs were won; four out of the last seven.  Panthers are well suited for the future with their franchise philosophy.

I can understand the reasons for wanting to cut Cam at the end of the season. But honestly it would be pretty stupid to cut a franchise QB without a replacement because he was injured.

Injuries do heal. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Move forward with the surgery now and you have all offseason to evaluate him. His trade value isn't gonna change between now and opening day 2020 - unless he shows he's healthy, then it'll skyrocket. If they want to move on, that seems to make the most sense right now.

Stuff like this is why I hope he goes somewhere else and wins a SB. No support from fans when they KNOW he was hurt to start the season. He's been the ENTIRE offense for a long time. Again how fast we forget. Dude put on a good showing until he got injured against the Steelers but hey, we forget real quick don't we? He can't be a pocket passer but put up damn good passing numbers under Chudzinski, yet we go to dinking and dunking. Every other team can find WRs that get open or put in effort on routes but we seem to be the only team that just can't get the WR position right. It's amazing how the Steelers, whom almost always have a 25 or below pick, finds WRs that work. That's just one example I'm using in this instance to show the ineptitude that is our college scouting team. Why is it this coaching staff can't get a play in on time or adjust the gameplan accordingly like others in the league? I could keep going but jeez let that man live. He deserves a chance to heal because regardless of his "accuracy issues" the guy is the best QB this franchise has seen and probably will see for a long time. How about we get an O-line that works or a LT that is actually serviceable? A RG that doesn't cause penalties at very bad times (Yes, Trai Turner has taken several steps backwards). There are a ton of issues with the offense. QB1 ain't one of them.

All you have to do is look at other teams fansites. There's quite a few teams hoping Carolina cuts ties with Cam this off-season so they can sign him.

The fact that many teams were inquiring about Cam is quite telling. He just needs an innovative Offensive Coordinator like some of these young up and comers. Norv is pretty much the originator of Shula's offense. It's not anything new at all. We just have the right running back to implement it properly. Same product, different flavor.

    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
    • I didn't say I would have done it. I was just saying that I can see why some in the FO considered it. Everything was done to give Bryce weapons. Solidify the interior line thru FA. Get XL at WR in round 1 and then get the most talented RB in round 2. Take a TE in round 4, etc They were probably "assuming" he'd make a complete recovery during the 2024 season. I'm a skeptical person. I wouldn't have assumed he'd be ok in 2024. I personally would have taken another position in the 2nd for that very reason. But, if I were "influenced" to take him I would've argued to keep him off the field, especially seeing how things were going for us record wise. Conventional Wisdom says most backs don't get back to normal until two years after the ACL surgery. He was injured in Fall 2023. Having him suit up in 2025 would have been almost 2 years since the original injury. You have him for 3 year on low contract. If he balls out, you resign him for a couple of more years b/c he'd only have 3 years of tread on the tires. If he's ok but not great you let him walk.
