Greg Cosell talks Titans vs Panthers

they haven't played a single game w/ a healthy Cam.  A healthy Cam gives them more room to run and get open.  I mean you could call it a push if you want....CMC however makes this 2019 squad the better cast.  Cam has a legit MVP caliber player that can take over a game and is essetnialyl unstoppable.

I mean if Cam doesn't return healthy it is all a mute point.  And I tend to believe he has been put on the shelf at this stage.  He is rehabbing but not for a 2019 return.  Just easier to say that much later in the season vs now.  Saying it now, opens the organziation up to a nightmare in terms of dealing w/ the press and all that.  Because I still believe, the Panthers org isn't being truthful on Cam and the plans.  Just too many red flags that have never made sense. to me.  Hope I am wrong.

More than one source has referred to Newton's future here as "in doubt".

I agree that McCaffrey is better than probably any player we had in 2015, but there's not a good enough complementary cast to keep opposing defenses from focusing solely on stopping him. And no, I'm not positive Newton's return changes that.

I'd also throw in that the 2019 versions of both Newton and Kuechly don't look to be as good as the 2015 versions. And again, the offensive line is nowhere near as good.

Not right now because it has some young players.  I do credit Hurney for making significant investments in the oline, only time will tell if he made wise investments.

Paradis doesn't really look like a wise one so far.

I can't fault the team too much for paying Turner, but that one's got some questions too.

And yeah, I still don't see why the guy who is generally acknowledged to be our best offensive lineman isn't playing left tackle when he's shown that he's capable.

Another small item that might not be terribly encouraging...

Per a blurb on NFL Network, there are three teams in the league whose defenses have so far this season held every opponent under 25 points.

They are the Patriots...

the 49ers...

and the Titans.

Steve Smith did say on WFNZ earlier this week that the Panthers typically struggle when going against great defenses. We'll see if that holds true this weekend.

I probably don't pay as much attention to it as some, but when I have keyed on Paradis, I thought he did ok for the most part.  Especially in terms of run blocking.  Need to see how the oline performs as a group though, preferably as a consistent group personnel wise.

Regarding Moton, that is more on the coaches than the GM.

Rivera let Moton and Williams start one series last week, then benched Williams and forced Moton to go back to the right.

I won't argue that Williams was bad but Daley wasn't exactly a bookend.

One part of that interview absolutely pissed me off.

Cosell said that the 49ers didn't do anything special with us on offense, they just did the same thing they've been doing every game this year.

So it's not like there wasn't tape to review.

Heck it's not like this wasn't something we'd already seen for a couple of years before.

Given that Rivera should have damn near intimate knowledge of how Shanahan runs and offense by now, and noting that the 49ers weren't doing anything outside their usual MO, I would have been okay if we had just lost this game. But under those conditions, getting run all up and down the field like we were a scout team is just inexcusable.

I mean a lot of that was just guys out of position. We criticize a lot of players but we never get on Luke. Some big runs happened because he misdiagnosed plays and got fooled last week. That can’t happen from your best defensive player.

Luke had a lousy game. I have a hard time naming anybody on the defense who didn't.

With that said, this is a longstanding thing with Rivera's defenses. The way to attack them has always been to use their own aggressiveness against them, let them overpursue and then beat them on the cutbacks.

Shanahan just does it better than most.
